Kusal Mendis is the new man - he's been Sri Lanka's best batsman on this tour so far. Woakes completes a wicket maiden.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"Good bowling from Woakes, just pushing it across the left-hander, drawing Karunaratne out of his crease into a bit of a drive. It's a very easy catching height to Root's left."
Karunaratne c Root b Woakes 26 (SL 38-1)
Frank! Karunaratne had battled so well for his 26, but a lapse in concentration gives England the breakthrough they're looking for. He chases one angled across him, gets an edge, and Joe Root, who doesn't drop many, pouches it at second slip. Sri Lanka still 359 behind...

Oooh, a heart-in-mouth moment, flicking uppishly off his pads and just landing it short of Chris Woakes at short mid-wicket. England's wicket-hunt continues...
Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"That was a glorious on-drive. It was quite full from Woakes, who's trying to encourage the drive. When someone actually pulls it off, as a bowler, you've just got to nod your head - and obviously swear at him through gritted teeth."

That's a lovely shot - Karunaratne showing the maker's name as he straight-drives Woakes gloriously back down the ground. This is turning into a very decent opening stand for Sri Lanka.

Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
"Woakes certainly makes it kiss and go through. That's the problem with Finn. Somehow it's not right. He's what I call a hit-the-deck bowler. Some pitches up here in the north you need to kiss the deck. Woakes would have bowled better at Headingley. There are other pitches where it will be better for Finn."

Time for a bit of Steven Finn, who hasn't been at his best in this series so far but is sporting an impressively sculpted bead. Swings and roundabouts. Karunaratne squirts a couple behind point.
Karunaratne is looking more settled now. He pops a single to mid-wicket, before an inside edge in the same area brings Silva three.
Charles Dagnall
BBC Test Match Special
"An extravagant shot, the kind you'd be more likely to see in a one-day game."
Finally Karunaratne breaks the shackles with a flowing square drive when Broad offers a bit too much width. Sri Lanka would love it, love it, if these two could get through to lunch...

Next batsman who should play for England? None of those you mentioned but Dawid Malan. Great season last year, excellent tour with the Lions and in great form again. And an all-format choice.
Alan, London
Sri Lanka are just beginning to look a bit nervy again. Silva misses with an airy drive and the ball jags back through the gate and just misses the stumps. Then he doesn't withdraw his bat in time when attempting a leave and ends up steering the ball to the slips, on the bounce. 20 balls without a run now...

"I'm always surprised the PCA - who speak on behalf of players - they don't represent the players better to the ECB and say 'we need longer tours with more warm-up matches. We've seen guys come in and they haven't got a cat in hell's chance of playing well.'
