Dimuth Karunaratne begins by almost inside-edging Anderson's first delivery onto his stumps. Set the tone and all that. Eventually he's off the mark with a push to mid-off.

Jimmy Anderson has a shiny new red ball. If that isn't a sentence to bring batsmen out in a cold sweat in the middle of the night, I don't know what is. Here we go...

Right, here come Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva, who have scored 54 runs between them in six innings so far in this series. Now's the time, lads! You're due!

I'm told that Simply Red are playing Chester-le-Street next week. Sri Lanka meanwhile, are left to reflect that if you don't know how to playing the moving ball in English conditions by now, you will never ever ever know...ooooohhhh...

"Sri Lanka have become the first team since 1958 to be bowled out for less than 120 in three consecutive Test innings."

  9. England have enforced the follow-onpublished at 11:20

Just to confirm, Alastair Cook has opted to go for the jugular. Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad will put their feet up for 10 minutes, then set about trying to decimate this Sri Lankan batting line-up again.

Thirimanne c Compton b Anderson 19 (SL 101 all out)

It's all over. Lahiru Thirimanne decides to have a big mow and succeeds only in propelling the ball miles up in the air. Nick Compton settles underneath it and completes the catch safely, despite a bizarre stumble at the end. Sri Lanka's misery is over...er, for about ten minutes...

James Conlon: How many times has a side followed on every game of a series & a side only batted once each game and won them all?

Dane Le Page: I don't think England should enforce the follow on. Some of our batters need time at the crease, and this is an ideal chance...

Jimmy Graham: What are the chances of Cook popping on the pads, knocking off five runs for his 10 000 then declaring?

  14. SL 100-9published at 11:15 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

Pradeep gets a toe-end on it and he frantically scampers through for a single to get off strike. Just what Sri Lanka wanted. However, Thirimanne can't get a single off the final ball, which means that England will get another go at the tail-ender...

Sri Lanka could be all out before I've finished my muesli here. In fact, scratch that - they could be four down in their second innings before I've finished my muesli (I'm a slow eater). James Anderson takes the ball from the other end, and that's an excellent shot from Lahiru Thirimanne, biffing Anderson back over his head for a one-bounce four. Anderson gives him a stare that would melt granite.

  19. SL 93-9published at 11:05 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

The new batsman is Nuwan Pradeep, who is as genuine a number 11 as you'll find in Test cricket. He holds the bat almost distrustfully, like it's some sort of highly radioactive uranium rod. He manages to survive the last three balls of Broad's over, though.
