Mathews is off the mark with a single and Silva collects three with another compact, good-looking drive. He has 38 now off 82 balls.
The decision stands. No edge. As you were. Well done, Aleem.
SL 101-3
Here we go again... Mathews is beaten again, England are slightly interested in an appeal for caught behind. Aleem Dar says no. England say they don't agree.

"I think he could have got his fingers under the ball and then the ball would have bounced in the heart of his hand and he'd have caught it."

"Root's instinct was correct, he knew. It was very low."
It carried. And Root got to it. But the ball just kissed the turf as he tried to wrap his fingers round it.
Surely this isn't out? Anderson locates a thick edge from Mathews, defending on the back foot. And Root takes it at second slip. He looks anything but convinced, but the umpires want to have another look...

Angelo Mathews in at five for Sri Lanka. Good luck, skipper...

"It's a jaffa, it really is. Angled in, sharp spin away."
Thirimanne b Moeen 13 (SL 100-3)
Wonderful. Simply wonderful. Moeen, from round the wicket, draws the left-handed Thirimanne into a forward defensive, the balls grips enough to beat the outside edge and hit the top of off stump. Graeme Swann-esque.

"There is a lot of frailty in the Sri Lankan side. They've showed something we haven't seen so far in this series: they've been more committed to their strokes. The running between the wickets has been the most impressive aspect."
Anderson in for his fifth over after lunch. Only two slips in place - perhaps a surprise given the heftiness of England's lead. Less so when he bowls as full and wide as that and Kaushal Mendis drills him through extra cover for four. Anderson responds with a beauty that beats the outside edge.

"They are playing well aren't they Sri Lanka? They've been busy, run between the wickets hard and have played some nice strokes. I don't think England have been quite as disciplined as we've seen at Headingley. They've just lost a bit of concentration."
Moeen round the wicket - slip, short leg and short cover ready and waiting. Thirimanne is unperturbed, cutting then driving gracefully for two fours in three balls to end the over. The sort of stuff Mo was dishing out with the bat in the first innings.

England's coaching team of Trevor Bayliss and Paul Farbrace are on the dressing room balcony, wrapped up like five-year-old twins on a frosty winter morning. Chins buried in hoodies, hoods pulled up over their ears and foreheads. Just the single off that Anderson over as Thirimanne pierces a congested off-side field with a mistimed drive.

Wallop! Only marginally short from Moeen and Kaushal Silva rocks back to pull for four. Very quick on his feet there. No margin for error for England's offie. Much better for the rest of the over.
