  1. wicket

WICKET Petersen (c Carberry b Best 81)published at 15:32 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Lancashire 349-3 v Hampshire 109

At long, long last for Hampshire they have taken a wicket and it's the big one of Alviro Petersen. He survived being caught out earlier as he lofted a ball fractionally over the head of Liam Dawson but not this time.

Petersen pulls and is caught by Michael Carberry off the bowling of Tino Best - who in turn celebrates with a little fist pump. He rapidly found his way to 81 off 85 balls.

  2. wicket

WICKET Trescothick (c Barker b Woakes 14)published at 15:30 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Warwickshire 152 v Somerset 295 & 23-3

What is going on at Edgbaston!? Marcus Trescothick is caught by Keith Barker off Chris Woakes and James Hildreth goes the very next ball, bowled by the England paceman.

BBC WM's Mike Taylor has more details from Edgbaston:

"Warwickshire have taken three wickets in two overs to try to recover against Somerset.

"Tom Abell, who held them up for much of yesterday, edged a back-foot defensive stroke to Keith Barker to the wicketkeeper.

"Chris Woakes had already had Marcus Trescothick dropped in the slips, before hurrying him with a short ball, the miscued pull finding Barker at mid-on.

"Woakes's next ball yorked James Hildreth, flattening the middle stump, but Somerset remain in a strong position, 171 runs ahead."

  3. Elsewhere in the County Championship...published at 15:27 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

With all the chaos and craziness at Headingley, it's been a while since we've had an update in some of our other games.

At Lord's Middlesex are ticking along nicely on 146-3 against Nottinghamshire with Sam Robson on 76 and John Simpson approaching fifty.

Warwickshire paceman Keith Barker has removed Somerset's first-innings centurion Tom Abell to leave the visitors on 23-1 at Edgbaston.

Wickets have been tumbling at Grace Road where Northants are now 143-8, Leicestershire all-rounder Neil Dexter having claimed three quick wickets.

JOE ROOT MAKES A CENTURYpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Yorkshire 304-3 v Surrey 330

This man makes batting look so, so simple. Joe Root brings up his 18th first-class century off 110 balls with a single off Gareth Batty and then launches him for a mighty six.

With Jonny Bairstow in full flight at the other end on 146, this game is getting away from Surrey very quickly.

The partnership is up to 259 at more than six an over. Astonishing.

I'm sure there's a few Surrey bowlers who would fancy swapping places with you Leason!

  7. 'Petersen makes batting look easy'published at 15:12 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Lancashire 332-2 v Hampshire 109

BBC Sport's Stephan Shemilt at Old Trafford:

"Fun in the sun for Lancashire, who are grinding Hampshire into the dirt now. Luke Procter has his second first-class century, but it is Alviro Petersen (68 not out) who is making batting look easier than anyone else in the match. Busy, looking to score, punishing anything loose, he's entertaining the crowd.

"A six from Procter sees the partnership between the two reach the century mark.

"In other news, Bryan Robson is here, having spoken at a charity lunch. I believe he once played cricket, circa 1987."

I bet Glamorgan wish it was a bigger cloud Rob! They are in real trouble as play resumes in Cardiff.

  9. Sussex chase maximum batting pointspublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Sussex 246-1 v Derbyshire 191

Sussex are taking this game away from Derbyshire. It's a 175 partnership between the two at the crease with Ed Joyce clocking up 129 and Luke Wells on 75.

  10. Bairstow given a lifepublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Yorkshire 279-3 v Surrey 330

Arun Harinath may live to regret that as Jonny Bairstow lobs James Burke to mid-on but he spills a difficult chance.

The run scoring is relentless from Joe Root and Bairstow.

Half-century up for Petersenpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Lancashire 304-2 v Hampshire 109

As the BBC commentary team informs us that the record defeat in this fixture for Hampshire is by an innings and 455 runs, Alviro Petersen quickly reaches his half century.

It's only taken him 52 balls with eight boundaries, his last of which splits the field and runs away to the rope. On a day where the north and south divisions are called up again - it's the north gaining the advantage.

  15. Simpson doing damage at Lord'spublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Middlesex 111-3 v Nottinghamshire 354

BBC London 94.9's Kevin Hand at Lord's:

"John Simpson has just smashed a Long Room window by hitting Samit Patel for six.

"It passed through one of the windows on the middle tier and fortunately no further damage done in the Long Room itself.

"Middlesex recovering from 49-3 but a long way to go in reply to Nottinghamshire's 354."

  16. Record partnership for Bairstow and Rootpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Yorkshire 252-3 v Surrey 330

Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root continue to pummel Surrey's bowlers at Headingley as their partnership goes to 207.

It's a record fourth-wicket stand for Yorkshire against Surrey - surpassing Jacques Rudolph and Andrew Gale's stand of 206 in 2008.

Root is 12 runs short of his century.

  17. WARWICKSHIRE BOWLED OUT FOR 152published at 14:46 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Warwickshire 152 v Somerset 295

  19. 'Grace Road is like the Caribbean'published at 14:45 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Leicestershire 332 v Northants 106-4

BBC Radio Northampton’s Alex Winter at Grace Road:

“With a gentle breeze blowing across Grace Rd and the trees around the ground swaying gently, it could almost be the Caribbean here - just without a grain of sand in sight.

“Northants lost three wickets in morning session but at least kept the scoreboard ticking over healthily. But since lunch we’ve had 15 overs and only 32 runs have been added.

“And Josh Cobb, back at his former home where crucial runs here last season helped Northants to a first win of the season, has weakly edged behind trying to expansively drive for 30. Leicestershire well on top.”

  20. Kent rebuildingpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Kent 109-2 v Gloucestershire 337

Kent were reeling on 6-2 before lunch, but half-centuries from skipper Sam Northeast and New Zealander Tom Latham has taken them past the 100 mark.

Fine recovery from the hosts at Canterbury.
