Summary

  • Yorkshire's Bairstow 198, Root 190*

  • Double tons for D'Oliveira and Joyce

  • Centuries for Robson, Northeast, Wells & Procter

  • Warwickshire set 322 to win

  1. 8-3 in Cardiffpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Glamorgan 8-3 v Worcestershire 456-6 dec

Make that three quick wickets for Worcestershire as Ed Barnard bowls the returning Mark Wallace with a fine yorker for four.

Maybe Worcestershire have seen the grim weather forecast for the Welsh capital on Tuesday?

  2. Wickets tumbling in Cardiffpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Glamorgan 8-2 v Worcestershire 456-6 dec

When you've just seen your opponents pile up 456 in their first innings, a nice steady start with the bat is desirable.

But Glamorgan are already 8-2 with Joe Leach removing Nicholas Selman and Will Bragg in consecutive deliveries - Jacques Rudolph surviving the hat-trick ball.

    Worcestershire are rampant.

LUKE PROCTER HITS CENTURYpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Lancashire 283-2 v Hampshire 109

Lancashire opener Luke Procter has steadily reached the second first-class century of his career. He had to survive a dropped catch by Jimmy Adams and a possible lbw when batting in the 90s but he's there, off 253 balls, with his eighth boundary of the innings.

He soon follows it up with another boundary and Lancashire are really running away with it now. Pressure off for the 27-year-old.

  5. Bears stumble towards follow-on dangerpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Warwickshire 135-9 v Somerset 295

BBC WM's Mike Taylor at Edgbaston:

"Perhaps Somerset were thinking this morning that they might have the chance of enforcing the follow-on - your reporter was not - but that is now a distinct possibility.

"Jamie Overton has struck three times in his post-lunch spell. He hit Varun Chopra and Rikki Clarke on the pads with full deliveries, winning both appeals to Neil Mallender.

"His first ball to Keith Barker reared and struck the helmet. Surely rattled by that, Barker steered his second ball low to second slip. 11 to avoid the follow-on, last pair together."

  6. 100 runs

HUNDRED FOR JONNY BAIRSTOWpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Yorkshire 220-3 v Surrey 330

Jonny Bairstow take a bow sir, that's one of the best hundreds you are likely to see.

The England wicketkeeper came in with Yorkshire in trouble on 45-3, but has taken the attack to the Surrey bowlers to reach his 19th first-class ton off just 96 balls.

Joe Root is on 73 and their partnership is now worth 175. Remarkable batting.

  7. All at seapublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Warwickshire 135-8 v Somerset 295

A coastguard... in Birmingham... reckon he's lost? Rikki Clarke looked a bit lost in the middle and has just been dismissed lbw by Somerset paceman Jamie Overton.

Warwickshire need 11 more runs to avoid the follow-on.

  8. 50 runs

Fifty for Sam Robsonpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Middlesex 83-3 v Nottinghamshire 354

Middlesex opener Sam Robson brings up his half-century off 92 balls with seven fours.

He's got some record at Lord's this season...

  9. 200 runs

BRETT D'OLIVEIRA HITS A DOUBLE CENTURYpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Worcestershire 456-6 dec v Glamorgan

There it is! Worcestershire opener Brett D'Oliveira makes his maiden double ton, just a few days after his first County Championship century.

It came off 359 balls and included 32 fours.

That's the fifth, yes fifth, double hundred we've had so far this season. And Worcestershire declare.

BBC Radio Wales Sport's Nick Webb with more from Cardiff:

"The declaration probably takes into account a forecast of filthy weather tomorrow, so Glamorgan could need to bat out just over a day and a half if that's right."

Ed Joyce hits centurypublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Sussex 192-1 v Derbyshire 191

Ton up for Ed Joyce as Sussex move ahead of Derbyshire's first-innings' score.

He takes a single into the off-side and the Sussex players come out to applaud him.

The batsman survived a couple of run-out scares as he notched up two singles in order to reach his century and don't forget he was dropped when on 47 - but he's certainly made Derbyshire pay.

Luke Wells also goes to fifty shortly after.

  12. wicket

WICKET Chopra (lbw b J Overton 56)published at 14:03 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Warwickshire 121-7 v Somerset 295

Varun Chopra falls soon after lunch at Edgbaston, lbw to Jamie Overton.

The use of nightwatchman Boyd Rankin yesterday means Rikki Clarke comes in at number nine, but Somerset are still well on top.

  13. 50 runs

Fifty for Joe Rootpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Yorkshire 182-3 v Surrey 330

He's been far less devastating than his batting partner Jonny Bairstow, but Joe Root brings up a fine half-century off just 58 balls with a boundary off Ravi Rampaul.

Bairstow is just 13 runs short of his ton.

  14. Adrian Harms food updatepublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Sussex 172-1 v Derbyshire 191

We saw BBC Sussex's Adrian Harms' cake update earlier, but now we've got his lunch report. Have to say it's looking good for Derbyshire (well, their catering staff at least).

  15. First glimpse of Santnerpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Worcestershire 424-6 v Glamorgan

    Mitchell SantnerImage source, Getty Images

New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner is batting on his Worcestershire debut.

The 24-year-old is a mightily clean striker of the ball when he gets going - probably not something Glamorgan fans want to hear with Brett D'Oliveira on 185.

Who would be in your North v South teams?

I think if we're going by the T20 Blast and One-Day Cup groups Alastair, then Worcestershire and Warwickshire would fall into the North category.

Always a tricky one with the Midlanders though!

  17. Welcome backpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

I hope you are suitably refreshed and ready for the afternoon session.

I'm sure whatever Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root had for lunch tasted pretty sweet.

The England pair put on 128 in 18.4 overs for Yorkshire before lunch in one of the best counter-attacking displays of batting you are likely to see.

They are about to resume at Headingley, as are the players in our other seven County Championship games.

  18. Lunch timepublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    County Championship - day two

While the players enjoy a bite to eat, I'm going to do the same.

Back in about 20 minutes for what promises to be a fascinating afternoon session.

Root and Bairstow are flying at Headingley!

  19. 'Morning belonged to David Payne'published at 13:14 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Kent 47-2 v Gloucestershire 337 - Lunch

BBC Radio Gloucestershire's Bob Hunt at Canterbury:

"The second morning certainly centered around Gloucestershire's David Payne.

"He remained 46 not out with the bat as he and Josh Shaw added 41 irritating runs to give the visitors another batting bonus point.

"With ball in hand he clean bowled two Kent batsmen in the first two overs; Daniel Bell-Drummond rather unluckily played on, but an unplayable snorter saw Joe Denly's stumps shattered.

"Kent have recovered from 6-2 though and Gloucestershire will be looking to strike again early in the afternoon."

  20. 'Lively morning at Lord's'published at 13:12 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Middlesex 61-3 v Nottinghamshire 354 - Lunch

BBC Sport's Elizabeth Ammon at Lord's:

"It's been a lively morning at Lord's. Middlesex wrapped up Nottinghamshire's innings within 17 minutes and after a solid start by the Middx openers, the Notts seamers had the better of the second hour.

"It's an intriguing battle on a pitch that isn't playing quite as truly as anyone was expecting. It's humid and hazy at Lord's and as the cloud gathers a bit more the ball will start to swing a bit more - another concern for Middlesex."
