"I was summoned to Andy Flower for a dressing down here. A six of the best. It was a day before a Test match against West Indies and there was a lot of talk about resting players. I got a bit grumpy about it. It ended amicably."

  4. SL 78-3published at 18 overs

England keep up the pressure as Moeen goes for just one off his fourth over. Sri Lanka now having to rebuild again, setting back the chance of an established man going a bit harder. Perfect for England.

  7. SL 77-3published at 17 overs

Captain Angelo Mathews (now an injury-enforced specialist batsman) is the new man. Sri Lanka need an innings from him. Willey ends his over with two dots.

"It was brilliant. He ran around from backward point, picked the ball up his left hand, turned and threw with his right."

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16.4 overs

Perera run out (Roy) 37 (SL 77-3)

Take a bow Jason Roy. Chandimal prods a short ball from Willey to backward point, where Roy runs to, collects, turns and throws down the stumps to run out Perera at the striker's end. It is brilliant fielding. Perera wasn't exactly tearing to get in, though.

  11. SL 75-2published at 16 overs

Moeen Ali isn't messing about. Another cheap over flies by. He is giving the Sri Lankans nothing to step to and swing through.

David Willey returns and produces his best over so far. He keeps it mainly in the corridor and goes for just a couple of singles.

Martin Grant: Oxenford shield more q than a. Had it been used in anger? Does it light up if hit? What would John Holder say?

Jay: Bruce Oxenford could've become a legend in cricket folklore if he'd chosen to don the Iron Man suit (fully equipped) instead

  15. SL 70-2published at 14 overs

Moeen Ali whirls his way quickly through another over for little damage. England will be happy with this. Sri Lanka are having to graft hard.

  17. SL 66-2 (Plunkett 4-0-20-2)published at 13 overs

Chandimal hasn't quite found the middle of his bat yet but he gets a four with a lofted drive through point off Plunkett. He has the two wickets but the batsmen clearly fancy a piece of big Plunks.

A limerick for Bruce Oxenford: There once was a very scared ump, Who couldn't bear taking a bump, As a cure for his fear, He hired some gear, But now looks like a terrible chump.

  19. SL 61-2 (Chandimal 5, Perera 32)published at 12 overs

With the powerplay done, Moeen Ali brings some spin to proceedings. It is a decent start. Perera tries to get his feet going and brings himself a couple with a blow on the floor wide of mid-on. Six runs off the over. Sri Lanka in rebuild mode.
