On Alex Hales dropping Perera at second slip: "It was a good length outside off. He has really gone after it and Hales at second slip went across Joe Root and got a good hand on it. That was travelling. It would have taken some catching - but that's what you're there for."
Morgan sniffs another run-out opportunity from a Sri Lanka single but he misses by an inch or two as Gunathilaka scampered in to the non-striker's end. Perera rubs salt in the wound by flicking the next ball off his pads for four.

"It looks like it might be a falconry accessory, as if he expects a bird to land on his arm."

"Do you remember Captain America and that big shield? That's what umpire Oxenford looks like."
SL 11-0
Chris Woakes - one of the stars of Trent Bridge - charges in for his opening over. He traps Gunathilaka in his crease and smashes his pad, but the umpire isn't interested.
And then Alex Hales lets him down at second slip by dropping a one-handed catch. Difficult chance, but a catchable one.
They have posed the question on TMS and I will extend it to you fine people - what are we going to call umpire Oxenford's shield? Get in touch via Twitter using the hashtag #bbccricket or text on 81111 (UK only).

"It looks an absolute belter of a pitch."
Bruce Oxenford almost has a chance to use his shield as Sri Lanka scamper an early run off opener David Willey. Perera makes his ground ahead of Morgan's throw, which also misses Oxenford. Willey only veers off line once in the over - with the last ball - and Gunathilaka punishes him by driving through extra cover for four.

"It looks like something out of a sci-fi movie."

"Umpire Bruce Oxenford is wearing some sort of protective guard on his left forearm, which has got something like a frisbee attached to it. I think he's using it as protection."
Jerusalem is currently blaring out at Edgbaston to welcome the England team to the field, followed soon after by the Sri Lankan openers Kusal Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka. Here we go...

"Joe Root wasn't at the races the other day - he did look all at sea - but we're all human beings. Maybe we just expect too much that when he has an off day we think, we notice a bit more."

"It's a very good-looking wicket. It's a great place to bat and a big toss for Sri Lanka to win because they under-performed with the bat the other day.
"Mathews is a massive loss for them - that's an area England need to look to dominate."

So, England unchanged. They have plenty of batting (is there a better number 11 in world cricket than either Adil Rashid or Liam Plunkett?) but once again the pressure is on the three seam bowlers to perform.
Sri Lanka make just the one change with Suraj Randiv coming in for Dasun Shanaka. Their big news is the positive fitness of Angelo Mathews, who scored 73 and then helped destroy England's top order with 2-22 at Trent Bridge before limping out of the first ODI.
The good news for England is that he will only be batting at Edgbaston.
England: Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (capt), Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler (wk), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett.
Sri Lanka: Kusal Perera, Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Upul Tharanga, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews (capt), Suraj Randiv, Farveez Maharoof, Seekkuge Prasanna, Nuwan Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal.
Umpires: Michael Gough and Bruce Oxenford
Third umpire: Paul Reiffel; Match referee: David Boon.
England captain Eoin Morgan on Sky Sports: "I would have batted first. It looks a good wicket. There is a bit of rain around later on so I am not disappointed. The balance of the side as it stands is the right one for this game. We used a get-out-of-jail-free card on Tuesday but we are looking to improve today in all facets.
"We will look to be better at playing in our aggressive method and get a good score on the board. We have to look ahead and build towards the future. Hopefully we can get a win."
