  1. SL 104-3 (Chandimal 25, Mathews 13)published at 25 overs

Four more to the skipper, a touch off the inside edge off Rashid, down to fine leg. Jordan is not bowling but I will tell you anyway, he has dismissed Mathews four times and no-one has done that more often in ODIs. Not really worth waiting for was it. But here's a man who is, the inimitable Mark Mitchener.

"Mathews has decided, pushing and prodding along isn't getting easier. So he's decided to take it on. That's a confident shot by the Sri Lanka captain."

  3. SL 96-3 (run-rate 4.00)published at 24 overs

That's the spirit, the Sri Lanka skipper advances and thumps Plunkett's first ball over mid-off for four.

  4. SL 90-3 (Chandimal 24, Mathews 1)published at 23 overs

A steady over from Rashid, just the two singles conceded. Interesting to see how the free-scoring Mathews will approach this. Hopefully we will see his customary attacking intent.

Watch: Mendis pulls Jordan for sixpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 26 June 2016

Take a look at the highlight of the day so far from a Sri Lankan point of view, a six pulled away by Mendis.

  6. SL 88-3 (run-rate 4.00)published at 22 overs

Skipper Angelo Mathews is the new man and I can soon reveal the stat about him and Chris Jordan. Cricketing stat, I should add.

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

"This been the story of the Sri Lanka batting throughout the series. They have had moments when they put England under pressure and then they do things like this where they gift wickets. If a batsman gets to fifty you expect him to go on and get a hundred. But he's given it away, and it puts so much pressure on the middle order."

  8. wicket

    Mendis c Hales b Plunkett 53 (SL 88-3)published at 21.2 overs

The impetuousness of youth. Mendis takes on a short one and puts it straight into the hands of the deep mid-wicket fielder. The end of a spirited innings. Plunkett has taken a wicket with his second ball for the second time today.

"Since 2006, there has been one no-ball every 36 overs in one-day internationals."

  10. SL 87-2published at 21 overs

Rashid rattling through the overs, good for the progression of the game but hard to keep up with on occasions. Five of the six deliveries are milked for singles.

Muhammad Owais: "Well played Mendis! A good knock from ya and important for Sri Lanka team! Make It big!"

  12. SL 82-2 (run-rate 4.10)published at 20 overs

After leaking 10 in two balls in his previous over, just three singles conceded by Jordan in this one. Six an over from here would give Sri Lanka a total of 262.

"Mendis has got good options on the front and back foot. He's one of the younger Sri Lanka players who seems to be improving. It will serve him well over the years."

  14. SL 79-2 (run-rate 4.15)published at 19 overs

In only his fifth ODI, 21-year-old Mendis completes his second fifty from 61 balls with a single off Rashid.

    SL 76-2 (Mendis 49, Chandimal 15)published at 18 overs

Sunshine and a six. Mendis had pulled Jordan for four and when the next one is also shot he swivels on his heels and dispatches into the crowd for the first maximum of the day, leaving him one short of fifty.

  18. 100 up for Buttlerpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 26 June 2016

It's 100 ODI victims for Buttler. Even though he often played as a batsman in his early T20 international appearances, he has kept wicket in all but one of his 73 ODIs - the exception being his debut in 2012.

Rashid tosses one up, Chandimal accepts the bait and flays it rather agriculturally just over Jordan's leap at mid-on to the boundary. We have a drinks break, there is another change of gloves and bat and presumably instructions for more boundaries like that one.

Mike Bell: Re: Bristol losing more days to rain than any other county ground. May be partly due to Bristol having a tidal range of 13 metres (43 feet), the second highest in the world, and a high water table. Boats in harbour would keel over at low tide unless their cargo was arranged and stored properly, hence the 19th century phrase "ship shape and Bristol fashion".
