Barb: Village match, 20+ years ago. After a terrific C&B which left him prone halfway down the wicket, my husband was so winded that he was unable to get up again - had to be carried off! In the same innings, my brother was SENT off by the umpire (our milkman) who was fed up of him appealing every delivery - many from deep long leg!

"Just seeing Moeen Ali in his 12th man tabard, you'd think with what he offers with bat, ball and in the field he would be a shoo-in, but such has been the performance of Adil Rashid that he is now surplus to requirements."

  3. SL 178-5 (Mathews 44 from 54 balls)published at 39 overs

Plunkett, the pick of the England bowlers, charges in for his ninth over, Mathews advances but takes one hand off the bat as he chips a two over mid-wicket.

And there's rain in the Bristolian air with one or two brollies going up in the stands...

Watch: Bairstow drops Chandimalpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 26 June 2016

Here's that Bairstow drop from earlier. Did he do well to even get there, or should he have held on? Watch and make up your mind.

  6. SL 174-5published at 38 overs

What will Sri Lanka be aiming for? 250? A few more if these two stay in? Left-hander Tharanga swishes and misses at his first ball from Woakes, but he's then off the mark with a single. Good over from Woakes, who has 1-25 from eight.

Looks like England are sticking with their five-man attack - no Joe Root (or the five non-bowling batsmen). But plenty of flexibility for the last 12 overs as none of the five has bowled more than eight.

Ben Scott: "Broke thumb taking a catch keeping wicket. Skipper tried to hide me in the field. Took three more catches... ouch! #ballmagnet

Michael Lewis: "Broke my finger dropping a caught and bowled. Carried on and finished my spell then batted at five."

Pranav: "Badly bruised my hand accidentally punching a team-mate in the face while celebrating a win off the last ball in a T20."

  8. SL 172-5published at 37 overs

Upul Tharanga, an opener earlier in his ODI career, is in at seven. A lot rests on Mathews now.

"Prasanna's game is very one geared, either block or swing from the hip. He went for the big hit, got hold of it quite nicely but it went straight up in the air."

  10. wicket

    WICKET - Prasanna c Bairstow b Plunkett 2 (SL 171-5)published at 36.5 overs

A curious over - Plunkett fires in three bouncers to Prasanna, and despite the fact he's nearly caught off the second as he hooks to fine leg, he continues with the same approach and this time is easily pouched by Bairstow at deep mid-wicket.

"There is nothing more frustrating as a batsman when you are both looking to go and one gets out, that means another couple of overs of consolidation."

  12. SL 168-4published at 36 overs

The big-hitting Seekkuge Prasanna, recently of Northamptonshire, is the new batsman, promoted up the order after his cameo of 59 from 28 balls in the tie at Trent Bridge.

"That's what can happen when you look to accelerate, you just hope that first shot goes for four or six. That's a big wicket for Sri Lanka and for England. Hopefully Prasanna can hit some big shots again for Sri Lanka, on much smaller boundaries."

  14. wicket

    WICKET - Chandimal c Jordan b Woakes 62 (SL 168-4)published at 35.5 overs

Chandimal chances his arm going for a big hit against Woakes - but gets a leading edge and the ball skies over third man where the safe hands of Chris Jordan take the catch.

As so often happens, a wicket has fallen a few deliveries after a drinks break. The good doctor, Dr Inksbreak, continues to be one of the most potent partnership-breakers in world cricket.

"With these boundary sizes and the pitch being as good as it it I feel England are on top. Sri Lanka have had pockets of play but they haven't been able to have that momentum all the way through their innings."

Mike Bell: "I play in over 60s' walking football team. Sri Lanka's current range of knocks, pulls, pains & hamstring strains sound a breeze."

I'm sure we all have tales of cricketing injuries. (Mine include having to bat with a runner after spraining an ankle fielding in Melbourne, and nearly breaking my hand taking a sharp catch at cover). We'd love to hear of when you've been injured playing cricket - but have gritted your teeth and carried on playing regardless? Tweet, text or email us the usual way.

  19. dropped catch

    SL 165-3

The recalled Liam Plunkett strays with his line and Chandimal helps him down the leg side for four, earning a grimace from the heavily bearded Yorkshire quick. The Sri Lanka keeper then goes for a big heave but is dropped by Jonny Bairstow (not the first time we've written those words in the last 12 months) - though this was a hard chance running in from the mid-wicket boundary. He got his hands to it, but it slipped out.

"It's a really important phase for both teams. six overs left of this powerplay and then another man is allowed outside the circle. It's important one of these two puts the foot on the accelerator."
