  1. Delayed restart?published at 15:21

We may have a slight delay to the 15:25 restart - with the covers still on, it'll take them more than four minutes - but it's all smiles on the balcony as England coach Trevor Bayliss and assistant Paul Farbrace share a joke with Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews and chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya.

"The longer this delay lasts - and the shorter this game is - it brings in Sri Lanka more. What's the rules now, can you start the innings if it's still drizzling?

Graeme Swann: "It used to be that you couldn't play if there's a drop in the air. But it changed a bit towards the end of my career, particularly with English umpires."

What scores are now possible in 50-over cricket?

"500's the next benchmark. People are getting 240-250 in T20s, so why not. In 10 years' time, that may be par for the course, unless they start pushing the boundaries back or using softer balls or something. Someone will get 500 in the next 2-3 years."

  5. Covers back on?published at 15:15 British Summer Time 26 June 2016

Uh-oh - looks like the covers are going back on, although only the pitch is being covered - not the rest of the square. Fourth umpire Rob Bailey overseeing proceedings from under a purple umbrella.

"They've said they'd prefer to give you one more match than you deserve than one less, and that confidence from the selectors helps you."

"England will expect to win the Champions Trophy next summer. We got to the final in 2013 in home conditions even though we were still playing our old brand of cricket. Soon, they'll go anywhere in the world and expect to win, like that old Australia side did."

"We did get a few things wrong in that South Africa series. But as long as you learn from it, that's fine, and you learn the most from your mistakes."

Covers have been removed from the entire square now. All looking good for that 15:25 BST resumption.

"As a bowler, the last thing you could want was to face a team batting the way England are at the moment, with no fear. We've not got guys with back-of-the-hand slower balls or rapid bouncers, so on occasions like in South Africa, we didn't have enough depth in our bowling to stymie the likes of Quinton de Kock. Hopefully someone out of county cricket will come in with express pace or unplayable leg-spin."

James Patrick: As captain, broke two fingers on my bowling hand in a catching warm-up. Only picked two other bowlers, so bowled 17 overs myself.

We've been enjoying your cricketing tales of playing on through injury. Keep sending them in while we wait for the resumption.

  15. rain stops play

Rain delaypublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 26 June 2016

If you're just joining us, England's run chase has been delayed by light but persistent rain. It was drizzling towards the end of the Sri Lanka innings and they've not been able to get back on.

Although they have taken the covers off the pitch to roll it, the rest of the square, and the bowlers' run-ups, are still covered, which implied we're not out of the woods yet rain-wise.

"One thing that has worked in England's favour is Brendon McCullum. He's very good friends with Eoin Morgan. I spoke to 'Baz' [McCullum] during the World Cup and told him how it wasn't Eoin's team yet - Eoin eats up everything Baz says."

"I was the classic case - I was in and out of the team all of the time, I was never confident I was playing in the next game and that always means you're not playing with a smile on your face."

Simon, Witney: Kept wicket for the first time in years in a (very) amateur work match. Stumbled on bumpy ground failing to take a catch in the last over and broke a rib. Batted in excruciating pain and top scored. Lost easily. Took nine months to fully recover.

"It's almost as though that group of players were scarred because they had bad memories of being told off when things went wrong. Look at Jason Roy, he had never played for England before the regime changed, so didn't have any of those memories."
