Now Morgan is into the six-hitting game. He moves to 18 with a big hit down the ground off Prasanna. The England press officer Danny Reuben tries to catch beyond the rope but spills it. I'm sure nobody in the England dressing room will mention it.

Prasanna continues to get tap as Buttler dances down and drives low and hard through extra cover for four. England stepping on the accelerator.

England living dangerously again. Nuwan Pradeep comes on and Buttler cuts aerially just past Gunathilaka at point. It looks as though the low sun could have caused the fielder some problems in picking up the ball. Just four runs off the over.

"He's a brilliant fielder usually and that's a simple catch at this level - head height, not going that fast."

  6. Eng 62-2 (79 required off 66 balls)published at 9 overs

England are still favourites here, but that is partly because of Sri Lanka captain Mathews. The home side aren't firing boundary after boundary but they are keeping the scoreboard ticking, knowing Buttler has the big stuff in him.

Oh, Angelo Mathews has had a shocker. Eoin Morgan reverse sweeps Prasanna and it looks as though he is going to be caught at point but somehow Mathews spills the catch above his head.

Morgan is playing the support role to Buttler's aggressor. The Master to Buttler's Blaster.

Buttler is the man that can swing this game dramatically in England's favour. He brings up the 50 with a beautiful clubbed shot down the ground off Gunathilaka, who has joined the attack.

"The Sri Lankans reckon Morgan is far more susceptible to spin than against pace. His record against spin in recent times is surprisingly modest."

Seekkuge Prasanna brings some spin to proceedings. Morgan dances down and tries to go aerial but he inside edges and has to settle for a single. England deal in singles - six of them.

  19. Eng 38-2published at 5.3 overs

England can afford to allow a few cheap overs now. Wickets are the key. So long as they have men in the tent, they can go hard later.

Buttler doesn't work that way, though. He spots a prime Maharoof ball and clears mid-off and the rope with a lofted drive for six.
