"It's a very odd dismissal. It's a brilliant stumping. When he played the shot I think his foot was still in the crease, but perhaps he didn't know where it was."

Vince st Chandimal b Mathews 16 (Eng 30-2)

That is an amazing stumping. Vince clubs Mathews for four and then next ball looks to steer a ball that comes off his leg, hits the wicket-keeper and lands in his midriff. Vince thinks the ball has gone and sets off, leaving him out of his ground for Chandimal to recover the ball and whip off the bails. Game on.

Fetch that! Jos Buttler barely looks like he is swinging but gets every bit of Mathews' first ball to send the ball out of the ground with a pull to leg.

"Sri Lanka are going about their business quite cleverly - they're taking all the pace off. That's quite a good ploy at the start."

Jack Mendel: I'm all for having a quick moving game, but surely they could spare time for 1 review a side? Makes no sense to not use the tech.

  9. Eng 19-1 (target 141)published at 4 overs

Rambukwella is replaced by Farveez Maharoof, who is also taking pace off the ball. Buttler looks to use all his strength through the off side and connects well but Angelo Mathews dives at cover to stop. The ball is just clinging to the track, making it tough to get away.

"Snicko never lies - he must have hit that. Everything else was so far away from the ball, it could only be the ball."

Mathews is a wily old fox. He is giving England nothing. He beats a late cut shot from Buttler and charges down the track appealing. He and the keeper are adamant he hit that. Snicko looks to back them up as well. The umpire doesn't agree, though. Lucky boy, Jos.

"I find his action slightly curious. It's only about four paces, it's a bit skippy, then a flat dart."

  14. Eng 12-1 (target 141)published at 2 overs

Vince and Buttler work the ball around for a series of singles as Rambukwella loops a few potential hand grenades in their direction. Buttler ends the over by rocking back to pull aerially for two.

Spinner Ramith Rambukwella starts at the other end. Interesting story:, external in 2013 he was fined 50% of his Sri Lanka A tour fee for West Indies for trying to open an airplane cabin door at 35,000 feet. Like you do.

He is very gentle and concedes a boundary courtesy of a Vince sweep first ball.

  17. Eng 3-1 (target 141)published at 1 overs

Cracking start from Angelo Mathews, who has the keeper standing up and his bowling at a reduced pace. James Vince takes the last ball for a single to prevent a wicket maiden before Buttler gets off the mark with two.

"Mathews is bowling like Dimitri Macarenhas used to here - dead straight with no pace. It's a pre-meditated shot, shuffling towards the leg side. Roy probably think he can do anything at the moment, but it's not that simple."

    Roy b Mathews 0 (Eng 0-1)

Would you believe it?! This is not a pretty end to what has been a very good limited-overs effort from Jason Roy against Sri Lanka. He moves right across his stumps to try and sweep Angelo Mathews and is cleaned up.
