"England with this new broom are fun to watch, how they might approach things tactically. We saw Tammy Beaumont come out of her shell and produce what she can at the world T20."

  2. Eng 19-0published at 6 overs

Pakistan have been guilty of both full tosses and misfields thus far and that unfortunate combination allows the elegant Tammy Beaumont a couple of runs through the cover region off Maham. Beaumont is in form, she hit 11 fours in her 70 from 75 balls yesterday.

"The schoolchildren who formed the guard of honour for the players have settled into the Basil D'Oliveira Stand and are making plenty of noise with their plastic batons.

"Spectators have dotted themselves around New Road but it's a disappointing turnout thus far. Hopefully warmer weather this afternoon will bring out a few supporters."

  4. Eng 16-0 (run-rate 3.20)published at 5 overs

Just the wide in the over from Asmavia. Some watery sunshine to cheer the sparse crowd and the England players looked relaxed on the bench, alongside women's head honcho and former skipper Clare Connor.

"There's been no real threat, no real trouble for these two openers. Nothing too untoward."

  6. Eng 15-0 (Winfield 13, Beaumont 2)published at 4 overs

Winfield has a high backlift akin to Jonny Bairstow so plenty of momentum to put on the ball, but there are not so many attacking shots in this over from young Maham, still doing her best Shoaib Akhtar impression with that long run.

"That's the perfect way to play slower seam bowling. We saw that 80 Lauren Winfield got against Australia in that T20. She's got power, she's got shots. It's all about settling in at the top."

  8. Eng 14-0 (Winfield 13, Beaumont 1)published at 3 overs

Asmavia is not afraid to experiment, one delivery might have gone above the sightscreen. Not much good is they are slow full tosses though, and Winfield hoicks one through mid-wicket for another four.

  10. Eng 9-0 (Winfield 9)published at 2 overs

The aforementioned teenager Maham Tariq takes the new ball from the New Road End. The exuberance of youth, she has a remarkably long run up for deliveries timed around 59mph. The floaty bowling fails to trouble Winfield, who, aided by a notable misfield, adds a brace of twos to her account.

"Pakistan have got a lot to do. You have to give credit for where they are in world cricket. They're only 20 years in. They put in a solid performance with the bat yesterday. Overall, they gave it a decent crack. If they can grow each game, and build with each game, they can take a lot from the series."

  12. Eng 5-0 (Winfield 5)published at 1 over

Lauren Winfield was out first ball yesterday but it is a more assured start today as she dispatches a slow long hop from seamer Asmavia Iqbal high over mid-wicket to the boundary.

"Obviously the girls like to do their homework. But it's very doubtful they know much about Maham Tariq. For England they'll want to have a look early on. I've also seen that the square is actually really big. It means the outfield will be pretty quick as well. Hopefully the girls will get off to a good start."

So one of those changes for Pakistan is Maham Tariq, an 18-year-old who has played only two ODIs and was not part of the original squad. Born in July 1997. Doesn't make me feel old, honestly. Just the one wicket and five runs from her first two games. Here come the players.

  16. Captain's viewpublished at 10:27 British Summer Time 22 June 2016

Pakistan captain Sana Mir: "We are going to bowl first today. We are a very good bowling unit. If we put England under pressure at the top, we can take wickets. We need to put on a better show today.

"We need to improve in all three areas. We were not up to the mark in bowling, batting and fielding. We need to pull up our socks.

"We have three changes - Nahida Khan, Sadia Yousuf, and Maham Tariq come in."

  17. Captain's viewpublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 22 June 2016

England captain Heather Knight: "We'd have had a bowl first as well. It definitely was a good day at the office yesterday. The team was outstanding. We start fresh today, it's a new day and we need a strong performance again.

"We bowled a few too many extras. We'll look to adjust that. The fielding was good on the whole but there were a couple of fumbles so we'll look to improve."

Another recently retired England player is Lydia Greenway, who tells TMS: "Early wickets will be key for Pakistan, England will be looking to get more boundaries out of the powerplay."

  20. Pakistan make changespublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 22 June 2016

Three changes for Pakistan, including Nahida Khan coming in to open the batting.
