I'm afraid that's all I have time for today.

My esteemed colleague Phil Cartwright will be back in the hotseat on Monday morning.

One more match gets under way tomorrow - the Division Two game between Derbyshire and Northants at Queen's Park in Chesterfield.

Hope you can join Phil then.

For now, have a good evening whatever you are up to.

Meanwhile, amid the last-over carnage at Chelmsford, Tim Ambrose has also been dismissed for Warwickshire.

The wicketkeeper was caught by Zafar Ansari for 53 to give teenage paceman Sam Curran his second wicket.

    Five overs to go there.

  7. wicket

WICKET Cook (lbw b Rabada 49)published at 18:33 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Essex 107-2 v Kent 207

Oh my goodness, unbelievable scenes at Chelmsford in the final over!

With England Test captain Alastair Cook on 49, Kagiso Rabada pins him lbw with the penultimate ball of the opening day.

How many more fierce battles are these guys going to have in the coming years at international level? At county level - it's 1-0 Rabada.

  8. 50 runs

Fifty for Tim Ambrosepublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Surrey 273 v Warwickshire 317-5

They may have lost Jonathan Trott, but the runs are still flowing at Guildford.

Tim Ambrose goes past fifty with a single off Surrey quick Sam Curran.

It's the wicketkeeper's fourth half-century of the summer.

Eight overs remain on day two.

  9. Close of play at Scarboroughpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Yorkshire 291-5 v Middlesex

A good day for Yorkshire with the bat comes to an end as Gary Ballance walks back 106 not out.

Tim Bresnan also chipped in with a fine 63 as Yorkshire fought back from 131-4 after lunch.

  10. Stumps at Hovepublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Sussex 227-3 v Glamorgan 335

Day two comes to a close on the south coast with Sussex in a strong position.

Glamorgan fast bowler Michael Hogan was unable to take to the field after being hit on the helmet while batting and Sussex took full advantage with Ed Joyce crafting his third century of the summer.

Joyce is leading the way in the run-scoring charts with 838.

  11. wicket

WICKET Trott (lbw b S Curran 123)published at 18:15 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Surrey 273 v Warwickshire 315-5

Sam Curran bags a huge wicket for Surrey late in the day at Guildford.

The 18-year-old paceman pins Jonathan Trott, 17 years his senior, in front of his wickets and he's out lbw for 123.

Surrey now have a glimmer of hope of keeping Warwickshire's first-innings' lead down to something respectable. It currently stands at 42.

  12. Close of play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Durham v Hampshire 319-6

They're also leaving the field at the Riverside.

It was Hampshire's day if you look at the scorecard, but Durham did well to take six wickets after the visitors were 160-0.

  13. Stumps at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Notts v Lancashire 273-9

And that's the end of proceedings at Nottinghamshire where the hosts took regular wickets in the final two sessions to end the day on top.

There were three wickets each for Stuart Broad and Imran Tahir. Division One leaders Lancashire are in a spot of bother you'd say, but it's difficult to know until both teams have batted.

  14. wicket

WICKET Browne (c Northeast b Rabada 33)published at 18:09 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Essex 86-1 v Kent 207

You can never keep this young man out of the game.

Just as Essex were beginning to look as comfortable as your favourite armchair with the bat, Kagiso Rabada finds Nick Browne's top edge and the ball flies into the hands of Kent skipper Sam Northeast at mid on.

It's the South African international's first Championship wicket for Kent.

Alastair Cook meanwhile is on 45.

Gary Ballance hits a centurypublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Yorkshire 281-5 v Middlesex

Well batted Gary Ballance. The Yorkshire left-hander reaches his first hundred of the season in his 14th innings.

It's been a patient knock, coming off 202 balls, but an absolutely crucial one for his side.

    Four overs left at Scarborough.

  16. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Worcestershire v Leicestershire 299-7

Stumps is called bang on six o'clock at New Road - something of a rarity these days.

Ned Eckersley goes in on 40 for the visitors, but the day undoubtedly belonged to Neil Dexter who hit his third Championship hundred of the season.

Worcestershire did well to pull things back from 164-2 however and will still feel they're well in the game.
