  1. 'Lancashire enjoy solid morning'published at 13:39 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Notts v Lancashire 109-1 - Lunch

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle with his thoughts on the morning session:

"Lancashire enjoyed a morning of solid accumulation against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

"The Division One leaders survived a tricky opening hour, in which England’s Stuart Broad conceded just nine runs from eight testing overs.

"Luke Procter’s arrival in the middle coincided with the end of Broad’s spell and he played positively to race to 45 not out from just 58 deliveries. With Tom Smith, 40 not out, batting throughout the session, the Red Rose reached lunch on 109 for one.

"Brett Hutton took the sole wicket to fall, having Haseem Hameed caught for 16. The young right-hander thrust forward and unluckily saw an inside-edge fly gently off the pad and balloon towards Michael Lumb at gully.

"Imran Tahir, who played one championship match for the county last year, had an inauspicious start to his return to Nottinghamshire colours, going for 13 from an opening over which included two boundaries and two no balls."

  2. Lunch breakpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

With the players enjoying their lunches, I'm going to see what culinary delights the fine city of Birmingham has to offer.

I'll be back in about 25 minutes with the start of the afternoon session.

  3. 'Hogan takes blow to the head'published at 13:12 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Sussex 26-0 v Glamorgan 335 - Lunch

BBC Wales Sport's Nick Webb at Hove:

"A blow on the head for Glamorgan fast bowler Michael Hogan was the main incident of the first session, as it cut short his brief innings and prevented him taking the field in the Sussex reply.

"Stu Whittingham was the bowler involved, which ended his chance of a first five-wicket haul after a career-best 4-58.

"With captain Jacques Rudolph also off after his knock of 87, Glamorgan used their T20 signing Shaun Tait as 13th man.

"Ed Joyce took a string of boundaries off Graham Wagg, but most of the morning was conducted at the same sedate pace as day one, on a slow pitch."

  4. 'Chopra looks well set'published at 13:10 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Surrey 273 v Warwickshire 78-1 - Lunch

    Clive Eakin
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Sport

"Returning after an unexpected rain break Warwickshire approached the 20 minutes before lunch more positively.

"Varun Chopra looks well set on 39 and after a cautious start Ian Bell has reached 15.

"Surrey have only employed one over of spin so far but Gareth Batty and Zafar Ansari can expect more work this afternoon."

  5. 'Hampshire's highest opening stand of season'published at 13:06 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Durham v Hampshire 95-0 - Lunch

BBC Newcastle's Martin Emmerson at Chester-le-Street:

"It's been a slow, but methodical morning from a Hampshire perspective after they were put in by Durham.

"The ball has been doing a bit but former Durham man Will Smith and fellow opener Jimmy Adams have been careful in their shot selection and have reached lunch at 95-0.

"Adams has 57 and reached his third half-century in four Championship innings in 76 balls and with eight fours. Smith has 36. It's Hampshire's highest opening stand of the season."

  7. 50 runs

Fifty for Jimmy Adamspublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Durham v Hampshire 86-0

Meanwhile at Chester-le-Street, the Hampshire opener is making batting look easy. It's not often you say that at the Riverside.

  8. wicket

WICKET Williamson (c Simpson b Franklin 28)published at 12:52 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Yorkshire 85-2 v Middlesex

Middlesex also take a huge scalp just before the interval.

New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson nicks his compatriot James Franklin behind for 28 not offering a shot.

This has been the story of Yorkshire's season so far really - plenty of batsmen at the top of the order getting starts and then getting out.

  9. wicket

WICKET Stevens (lbw b Bopara 19)published at 12:49 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Essex v Kent 74-5

That's a big, big wicket for Essex before lunch.

Ravi Bopara picks up his second the morning session, trapping Darren Stevens lbw.

Adam Ball joins Alex Blake in the middle.

  10. 50 runs

Fifty for Alex Leespublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Yorkshire 85-1 v Middlesex

This is turning into a fine session for Yorkshire after losing Adam Lyth to the first ball of the day.

Alex Lees has been the catalyst in that recovery with his fourth County Championship half-century of the summer.

He brings it up in fine style by smashing Middlesex spinner Ollie Rayner for six.

  11. Play resumes at Guildfordpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Surrey 273 v Warwickshire 62-1

Well, that rain-shower wasn't particularly potent and they're back on at Surrey.

Varun Chopra and Ian Bell are at the crease for Warwickshire.

  12. '13 off the over'published at 12:41 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Notts v Lancashire 93-1

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle has more on a 'mixed' first over from Imran Tahir:

"Rusty start to his season’s work for Imran Tahir.

"The South African leg-spinner, who played just one Championship match for Notts last year, goes for 13 from his first over.

"His initial delivery, a no-ball, was slapped for four by Luke Procter and a second no-ball followed 0-8 after two illegal deliveries.

"Lancs now 93-1 after 25 overs."

  13. A less than perfect startpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Notts v Lancashire 88-1

Oh dear, not what you want from your overseas bowler on their County Championship debut!

At least things can only get better for Imran Tahir.

  14. Procter on the chargepublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Notts v Lancashire 80-1

Luke Procter has come in like a man possessed for Lancashire.

The all-rounder has raced to 28 off 27 balls and his partnership with Tom Smith (32 not out) is now worth 46 in just under eight overs.

Time for Stuart Broad to return to the attack?

  15. 'Unfortunate end to Glamorgan inningspublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Sussex v Glamorgan 335-9

BBC Wales Sport's Nick Webb has more from Hove:

"Glamorgan's innings came to an end in unfortunate fashion as Michael Hogan ducked into a short ball from Stu Whittingham and was forced to retire hurt after a blow on the head.

""Hogan, on 19, had provided some life to proceedings after a quiet start to the morning.

"Jacques Rudolph reached his top score of the season with 87 before upper-cutting Whittingham to third man, with the young paceman claiming best first-class figures of 4-58.

"Both sides claim three bonus points on a slow wicket."

  16. Kent crumblingpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Essex v Kent 48-4

It appears Essex were rather unhappy at having their top spot taken off them by Kent.

My, they're certainly fired up this morning and have just taken a fourth wicket - the big one of Kent skipper Sam Northeast for just five.

Northeast edges Matt Quinn behind to give James Foster his third catch of the innings and Kent are in strife on 48-4.

  17. ouch!

GLAMORGAN MAKE 335published at 12:18 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Sussex v Glamorgan 335-9

A gutsy last-wicket stand of 26 between Michael Hogan and Timm van der Gugten is forced to come to an early end after Hogan is struck by a Stu Whittingham bouncer.

Hogan seems to be okay, albeit a bit dazed. He can't continue and retires not out on 19.

  18. wicket

WICKET Hameed (c Lumb b Hutton 16)published at 12:09 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Notts v Lancashire 40-1

Lancashire's resistance in the first hour is over.

Haseeb Hameed inside edges Brett Hutton onto his pad and the ball loops to Michael Lumb in the gully.

Luke Procter comes in at three.

  19. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Surrey 273 v Warwickshire 55-1

The rain map looks as clear as crystal - except for one or two rogue showers and one of those showers has hit Guildford.

It should be very short-lived, but the players are coming off.

  20. wicket

WICKET Dickson (c Foster b Porter 18)published at 12:04 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Essex v Kent 35-3

    Jamie PorterImage source, Rex Features

Division Two leaders Kent are in all sorts of trouble at Chelmsford now.

Sean Dickson is the third man to go as he edges Jamie Porter to James Foster behind the stumps.

We may be seeing England Test captain Alastair Cook in the middle sooner rather than later at this rate.
