  1. Untypical Guildford Festivalpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Surrey 273 v Warwickshire 53-1

    Clive Eakin
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Sport

"The average score in the first innings of the match at Guildford has been 400 over the past 10 years but this time conditions look less favourable for the batsmen.

"Warwickshire weren't expecting to find it easy to respond to Surrey's 273 this morning and so it's proving.

"Runs have been hard to come by despite the fast outfield and short boundaries and Surrey's bowlers have been accurate and threatening."

It seems to be a bowling morning at Scarborough according to BBC London's Kevin Hand...

  3. Division Two updatepublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

It's been a fairly even morning at New Road so far where Leicestershire have moved to 45-1. Worcestershire youngster Ed Barnard picked up the wicket of Paul Horton for three.

Kent have just lost their second wicket at Chelmsford, Joe Denly edging Essex medium-pacer Ravi Bopara behind.

At Hove, Glamorgan skipper Jacques Rudolph has gone for 87 - Sussex paceman Stu Whittingham picking up the wicket.

    Glamorgan are 312-9.

  4. Elsewhere in Division Onepublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

Bottom side Hampshire have made a really good start against Durham at Chester-le-Street - they're 41-0 with Jimmy Adams and Will Smith going well.

Kane Williamson and Alex Lees are rebuilding for Yorkshire against Middlesex after the loss of Adam Lyth first ball. Yorkshire are now 28-1.

Lancashire are 32-0 against Notts at Trent Bridge.

  5. Time for Ian Bell to shine?published at 11:51 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Surrey 273 v Warwickshire 43-1

Warwickshire captain Ian Bell has just come to the crease at Guildford after Andrew Umeed was bowled by Stuart Meaker for 18.

With an England Test spot up for grabs against Pakistan you feel Bell needs to start making some big contributions.

His average is a healthy 46.62 this season, but he hasn't hit a century since his 174 against Hampshire in April.

I'll be keeping a close eye on how he goes.

  6. 'Positive start for Lancs'published at 11:47 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Notts v Lancashire 30-0

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle at Trent Bridge:

"Lancashire’s openers have made a positive start to their first innings against Notts at Trent Bridge.

"Haseeb Hameed forced Harry Gurney to the mid-wicket ropes without any alarm but was then squared up by Stuart Broad and was fortunate to find the third man fence via a genuine edge.

"Hameed has 13 and Tom Smith is unbeaten on 17 with the Division One leaders on 30 without loss."

This is the moment Fabian Cowdrey's leg stump was sent cartwheeling by Essex paceman Graham Napier.

    County Championship

What a strange season it's been so far in Division One. Huge scores and double centuries galore in April and May were followed by one of the wettest June's in living memory.

With so many draws, it's certainly made things very interesting in the title race.

Just 15 points separate leaders Lancashire with sixth-placed Somerset.

With the weather set fair for the next few days, this could be a very pivotal round in the County Championship - exciting times!

And Lancashire have certainly made a solid start - they're 21-0 against Notts.

    Essex v Kent 17-1

Graham Napier gives Essex the early breakthrough they wanted!

He may be 36 now, but Napier can still whip up enough pace to beat Fabian Cowdrey's defences and send his stumps flying.

Joe Denly is the new man in.

  11. The fight for pole positionpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Essex v Kent 12-0

Division Two's top two sides are going head-to-head at Chelmsford today.

Essex made the early running at the summit, but a four-wicket defeat to Leicestershire last time out coupled with Kent's unbeaten start to the season has seen Kent move into pole position.

It's been a quiet start so far from Kent openers Sean Dickson and Fabian Cowdrey - they're 12-0 off five overs.

  16. Stuart Broad returns for Nottspublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Notts v Lancashire (11:00 BST)

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle has more from Trent Bridge:

"Lancashire have won the toss and elected to bat first against Notts at Trent Bridge.

"The Division One leaders have named an unchanged Championship side and will be hoping to inflict a double over Notts, after beating them at Old Trafford at the start of the season.

"Chris Read has failed a late test, so is again absent for the home team, leaving former Lancs player Steven Mullaney in charge.

"Notts also have England’s Stuart Broad available and give a home debut to South African international Imran Tahir.

"The leg-spinner played four matches for Notts last season, all away from home and his intended seasonal debut on Friday evening was washed out.

Two matches started on Saturday, which means we have seven games in total today. Phew, I need a coffee.

At Guildford, Australian Aaron Finch made a century on debut for Surrey, but they could only muster 273 against Warwickshire. Warwickshire then closed on 12-0.

Meanwhile, Glamorgan's Jacques Rudolph will resume on 76 at Hove this morning with his side on 291-7 against Sussex.

Look outside, look up, do your eyes deceive you?! I think there is a round yellow thing and a bit of blue up there.

Incredible! After June's washout, maybe summer has finally arrived?

Great news for today's County Championship action, with five more matches set to get under way.

The even better news if you're an Essex fan is that this guy returns...
