  1. Amir's first ballpublished at 12:11

    Eng 1-0

There was definitely some shouts of "no-ball" from the crowd but, apart from that, there was no reaction. I didn't hear any ill will when his name was announced over the tannoy. Lord's is perhaps a nice place for him tor return - I wonder how the Old Trafford crowd will take to him next week. Cook takes a short single on the off side.

Cook to take strike, Amir jogging through his run-up. Three slips and gully. Short hair, goatee. Throwing ball from hand to hand. Here he goes...

Pakistan are out there, Amir is loosening and removing his sweater. He has the new ball, the dark red leather, in his hand. He will be bowling the first over to Alastair Cook and Alex Hales, who have just emerged down the steps.

If I'm batting I'm nervous. I might get out. Cook is looking at that and thinking, I might get a good ball, the odd swing - I've got to get my feet moving.

So, Mohammad Amir will be lacing up his bowling boots and getting ready to mark out his run. Six years on from the scandal that almost ruined his career, he will be bowling at Lord's. Like it or not, his return is a story.

Augustus Sammons: ‏Looking forward to England collapsing and being bowled out for about 175.

Woakes has been the best bowler yesterday and today. He's been showing off in the last few matches he's played. He's increased his pace, he's got better accuracy. He looks a better wicket taking prospect than Finn. It's a no-brainer.

  8. Postpublished at 12:02

Chris Woakes takes the applause as he leads England off the grand old stage, He's ended with 6-70, Stuart Broad 3-71. The rest? Not much.

England will be very pleased. They've had a really good morning. It was mostly what we expected. We talked about this yesterday that if you get through Misbah, the tail look weak. Once England got a new ball in the hand you expected them to bowl them out.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11:59

    Amir c Root b Broad 12 (Pak 339)

All over. Stuart Broad comes round the wicket to Mohammad Amir, the left-hander fences at one and Joe Root takes a very smart catch at second slip. England have taken the last four wickets for 29 runs. 339 perhaps below par, but a team making 300 in the first innings has only lost three of the last 67 Tests at Lord's.

Ijaz Kashi: I'm hoping it flattens back out for when we bat.

Pete Papa-Oscar: Nice start with the ball this morning from England. Will need to bat well against a good Pakistan attack though.

Theo Sheridan: Really enjoying eating my words in regards to Chris Woakes. Hopefully Ballance will make me do the same later.

  12. Pak 338-9 (Amir 12, Yasir 10)published at 11:57

Woakes goes back to what has served him well, hooping the ball away from right-hander Yasir in the hope an edge can be fed to one of four slips. Yasir, though, is belying his lowly position in the order, angling to third man for four like Misbah himself. This stand is worth 22.

  13. Three wickets in eight ballspublished at 11:55

Did you nip off for a couple of minutes and miss all the action? Wondering where Misbah and Sarfraz have got to? England took 3-6 in eight balls, starting with a couple for Woakes, then one for Broad.

  14. Pak 333-9published at 11:53

With Yasir Shah on strike to Broad, calm is momentarily restored. The volume of the Lord's buzz has definitely been cranked up, mind. Yasir leans on a drive down the ground for three. I'm not sure I remember a Pakistan last-wicket pair showing this much resistance. Time for England to take stock.

  16. Pak 330-9published at 11:49

Woakes to Amir, who slashes behind point for four. In case you've forgotten, Amir is capable of some late order biffery. It's noticeable how this pitch has quickened since yesterday - England might not mind that. A Woakes bumper flies over Amir and Jonny Bairstow for four byes, with Amir then driving down the ground for four. All happening.

The person who won't be profiting from this is Steven Finn. He showed nothing with the ball yesterday. With Anderson likely to return at Old Trafford, the casualty will probably be Finn.

  18. Pak 317-9 (Broad 26-9-67-2)published at 11:45

Are you keeping up? Sarfraz belted one to the hands of point, Wahab Riaz had his stumps splattered - both to Chris Woakes - then Broad did for Misbah. Three wickets for six runs in eight balls. Oh, and Mohammad Amir is at the crease too. Yasir Shah the last rabbit out of the hutch.

It's been a very good half-an-hour or so for England. They have bowled majestically, swung the ball and picked the big one of Misbah.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11:41

    Misbah b Broad 114 (Pak 316-9)

And another! Misbah-ul-Haq is gone, bowled by a nip-backer from Stuart Broad. It's a nothing shot from Misbah, not forward or back, not attacking or defending. He walks back to warm applause, but this is England's morning. They have taken three wickets in eight balls and Pakistan are set to be below par.
