Rex Vinorum: This is some spectacular bowling by Chris Woakes. Dare I say, reminiscent of Jimmy Anderson?

Saam Das: Chris Woakes is like the Owen Hargreaves of the England cricket team. Previously unfairly maligned, now showing his true value.

Now then, did that have a little extra mustard on it? Stuart Broad to Amir, a bumper, a blow to the helmet. Amir, running past, gives a smile, while Broad gives him a good long glare. Broad is a survivors from 2010.

It wasn't the applause of a returning hero. But it was warm enough to say we know what you did, we've forgiven you, now get on with your career.

Enter Mohammad Amir, our first sight of him on his return to Test cricket. The reception is strangely, well, nothing. No real applause, no boos either. It's like he's any other player, which I suppose he is.

A massive in-swinger. The build-up was classic as well. He beat him with a special out-swinger and then a vicious in-dipper. It rocked Wahab Riaz to a certain degree. It was almost impossible for him to tackle this.

    Wahab b Woakes 0 (Pak 310-8)

Bowled him! Stumps akimbo, Wahab Riaz gone for a globe. First the outswinger, then the inswinger that splatters the timber. Chris Woakes has six wickets - two wickets in three deliveries have changed the complex of this morning.

    Pak 310-7

Chris Woakes holds the ball aloft, showing it to all corners of the ground and beaming a huge smile. That's his first Test five-fer, a continuation of what has been a remarkable return to the England team. Wahab Riaz is the new man, immediately beaten outside the off stump...

That was in his zone. He got cramped a bit. He plays that shot really well but this time he falters after playing a good hand. Woakes has put in a lot of effort on a benign pitch. He's stood out as the best for England.

  9. wicket

    Sarfraz c Vince b Woakes 25 (Pak 310-7)

Just when the Sarfraz Show was getting into full swing, just when England were looking frustrated, Chris Woakes is given a gift. Short and wide, a real long hop, but Sarfraz Ahmed cuts it straight to the bread basket of James Vince at point. Big moment. Dangerous player gone, England into the tail.

Just heard this morning that my dear daughter and her husband  are to have a baby – a dream coming true for them!  As I’m 77, I have decided to give away the push-ups and have 10 cups of tea without milk and sugar as I follow TMS throughout the night. Would like to apply for the location bonus points – at home on the Melanesian island of Espiritu Santo in the South West Pacific.

Two very different games out there. Sarfraz is coming at the bowling, moving, looking to score, an irritant. Misbah is Zen-like in his calm, waiting, dead-batting and deflecting. On the boundary, Moeen Ali chats with Pakistan batting coach Grant Flower as Sarfraz hooks a Broad bumper for a single.

He's got that stance as well, it's really low. He's looking to deflect and angle it off but he can also give a good hit.

Lots of press-up stories, but not many pictures yet. Woakes gets one to jump at Misbah, asking the question, but that's too high and probably hitting outside the line. To give you an idea of Sarfraz's movement, have a look at this. Not down the track to Broad, but getting deep in the crease to cut for four.

Arjun: If Misbah scores a double, expecting him to do a one hand push-up.

Dom Fulford: Broke my collarbone. Did not celebrate with 10 pressups.

Broad won't be pleased about that. He bowled a bouncer to him in the last over, and now Sarfraz comes down the track to him.

  16. Pak 301-6 (Sarfraz 18 from 20 balls)published at 11:20

To Sarfraz Ahmed, the popping crease is nothing more than a guideline. A suggestion. He gets miles down the track to Broad, all the time keeping his head perfectly still, and works a length ball from outside the off stump through mid-wicket for a couple. Broad, forced to change his field and his line, is then eased behind point for four. Just when you think you have all the answers, Sarfraz changes the question.

No joy for England so far, but very nearly a wicket there. A good delivery to deceive the batsman.

  18. Pak 295-6 (Woakes 20-7-50-4)published at 11:16

Lord's chatters with morning vigour as Woakes shines the ball on his left thigh then hovers in to Misbah. For once, the great man is beaten, late on one that beats the inside edge and only misses the off stump by a layer of cells. A maiden.

Crouched at the crease isn't he? He's looking to get out at Stuart Broad. He took a low stance, a stab at it and it went for four.

  20. Pak 295-6 (Misbah 111, Sarfraz 12)published at 11:12

Sarfraz must be a nightmare on a long journey. He is never still, fidgeting, adjusting his kit, shadowing a stroke, walking to square leg and back. As Broad is in, Sarfraz gets low and stabs behind point for four. Things will happen while he's at the crease.
