Alex Hughes: I think 10 press-ups from everyone in the crowd for each pint they have would be amusing!

Gordon Barker: Doing 50 press-ups to celebrate 50th birthday - old gits rule.

  2. Pak 289-6published at 11:08

Chris Woakes, England's best bowler with four-fer yesterday, in to Sarfraz. He's batting at least a foot outside his crease, then rushing even further out before the ball is bowled. Not only does it cancel any movement, but also prevents any tricks from the ball sticking in the surface. Even when Woakes digs it in, the right-hander drives off the back foot for four. Hold on tight.

  4. Pak 284-6 (Misbah 111, Sarfraz 1)published at 11:03

England have posted that lesser-spotted species, a third man. It means that a trademark Misbah guide only earns him a single. Three slips and a gully for wicketkeeper Sarfraz, a busy character who can give the ball a real whack. He's away, two from the first of the day.

Jack Lennon-French: I did 10 press ups yesterday, I went and scored a century to celebrate.

Dukkhaboy: Managed to check the BBC cricket update without my year seven class noticing. Celebrated with 10 press ups.

Stuart Broad has the ball at a pretty overcast Lord's. He's at the Pavilion End, bowling to Misbah. Two slips and a gully. Sarfraz Ahmed at the other end. Play.

England's Chris Woakes on Michael Carberry: "It was a terribly sad day for Carbs. He is a great servant for county cricket. Once an England player always an England player. We wish him and his family all the best."

Here come the players, England led down the stairs by a pretty stern-faced Alastair Cook. The Pakistan batsmen follow, Misbah doing some stretches on the boundary edge before crossing the rope.

England's Chris Woakes on BBC Test Match Special: "Those two crucial wickets late in the day boosted our spirits. We worked hard all day and got rewards late on. We can be better we know that. We are looking to come out with a buzz and pick up a few early ones and roll them over.

"I predominantly bowled from the Nursery End, used the slope and angles to make it awkward. The new ball seemed to do a bit more towards the end. Hopefully that happens a bit more today."

With Misbah flying the flag for the over-40s, it's pretty apt that Marcus Trescothick is on hand to ring the five-minute bell. Tresco, Somerset's favourite son, has scored two hundreds in the past two weeks.

James, this is excellent. I feel you have thrown down the gauntlet to the rest.

So, my question to you is this. Are you doing press-ups to celebrate anything today? Train arrived early? 10 press-ups. Pay day? 10 press-ups. Graduation? 10 press-ups.

Send me your pics. Extra points for a random location.

I've never seen a Pakistan team so well drilled, with the players who aren't involved in the game going through tough fitness drills before a game. They look a real, united team.

Junaid Mati: Am I the only one worrying Pakistan have enough already? Especially with another new (shaky?) England top 6?

Darren Keighley: Misbah is doing a great job for the oldies and comes across as a genuine decent guy too.

Some news from the ECB on England's injured players...

Ben Stokes and Mark Wood will play for Durham Jets in their T20 Blast match at home to Northants Steelbacks tonight.

Stokes will then play for Durham in their County Championship match against Lancashire that starts in Southport on Saturday.

Jimmy Anderson has been made available to play for Lancashire in the Championship game against Durham in Southport, but only for the first two days, or the first two innings (whichever is later).

Interesting that Stokes will play the whole of that Championship game, while Anderson will only play part. Anderson back for the second Test, but Stokes not?

England's Chris Woakes, speaking to Sky Sports: "You have to bend your back and work hard on this pitch. The ball tended to go through OK but as the ball became softer it was hard work."

I saw some of the England lads this morning and told them that Misbah has set the bar for century celebrations now. I expect them to beat it if they score a ton.

Tom in London: I think yesterday was England's day. If they get Sarfraz cheaply today then they're straight into a pretty long tail. I find it hard to argue that Pakistan will likely surpass 400 and anything less than that puts England in the driving seat.
