England's Joe Root, who scored 254 and 71 not out, took four catches and claimed 1-0 with the ball, on Test Match Special: "It's a great feeling. It's about contributing to wins - that's what it's all about. Those two occasions at Lord's it was batsman error on my part. I tried to cut that out of my game. It's the most controlled I've played.

"You've got to play the situation. It's only later on in the innings and this morning that I took the risks."

Going into Edgbaston at 1-1, you know the series starts afresh.

Yes, England should enjoy the win and have a good party with there being a few days between the games, but I just have a feeling that this series is going to be very, very tight.

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq: "Full credit to England - they won a good toss and Cook and Root took the game away from us. We were below average.

"We have to improve in every department. We could not build pressure and let them score a massive total in the first innings. If we had restricted them to 350, we had a chance. But it was difficult to come back from 600."

James Anderson looked like he'd never been away. Pakistan opener Shan Masood, who has been dismissed cheaply by Jimmy on the six occasions he has faced him, will wish he had stayed away...

I suppose the dampener is Ben Stokes. When he's in the side he offers that bit of balance and magic. He will be missed, but possibly Jake Ball will come back into the side?

Paul Barrow: Brilliant all-round performance, been four almost perfect days. Ben Stokes' injury the only blemish, albeit a big one.

It was also a fantastic return to action for Ben Stokes, who ruffled the Pakistan batsmen with some seriously quick bowling in the first innings. He is, however, a doubt for the rest of the series after hurting his calf bowling in the tourists' second dig.

At least England were able to wrap this up before any weather moved in.

Ollie Smith: Only 7 wickets and a half century - @chriswoakes, external should be dropped. Pathetic display. Standards slipping.

Chris Woakes has had another amazing game too. He notched his second Test fifty as a nightwatchman on the second morning, and took seven wickets with the ball.

It's been a tremendous performance from England - from the minute Alastair Cook won the toss, they've resolved to make it count.

It was such a flat pitch in the first couple of days, but there's been a real determination about England this week.

But don't forget skipper Alastair Cook - a century in the first innings, 76 not out in the second and the most talked-about declaration I've ever known.

Joe Root for his 254 in the first innings, perhaps?

England will be feeling a whole lot better with themselves following that win. They've bounced back in style.

But who's your man of the match?

The series is still alive but Pakistan have taken a bit of a hammering here.

When you see partnerships like that, you realise that Pakistan have let themselves down because there hasn't been a huge amount down there.

It just looks like being a series where if whoever bats first gets a good score could win.

I look at Pakistan's batting and think, do I see them getting 400-plus? Probably not. But with their bowling attack, if they can score over 300 then they are a threat.
