Martacus: Can somebody please just bowl a yorker!
Come on, lads. You've had your fun.
Mohammad Amir is driving Stuart Broad through the off side and then inside-edging four down to fine leg. This is where England need a lightning-fast quick to blast the tail out. A Mitchell Starc type. Full. Fast. Straight.

Thomas Foulston: How many people have scored a 250, a 50 and taken a wicket in a match?
Moeen tries to buy a wicket, giving the ball air and watching in disbelief as Mohammad Amir clatters three through the covers.

If only Rahat could produce this kind of performance when called upon as a nightwatchman.
Stuart Broad probably bowls the best bouncer in the England team - in the respect it's steepling and directed at the rib-cage. The plan to Rahat Ali is clear and a couple of bumpers are fended off with the grace of a buffalo herd trampling through the savannah.

Mohammad Amir is reading Moeen well. Perhaps it'll need the quicks to finish the job?

Don't give this man any width - all he needs is an inch and he'll smash you on the off side.

Rob Barward-Symmons: So now Root and Shah both have a double-century and one wicket each.
England need one wicket to win
Rahat Ali is as bad a batsman as I've seen in a long while. He hasn't had the memo about tailenders being able to dig out a solid 30 every now and again. In the first innings, he meekly popped a catch to short leg and here he's doubled over after being hit in the unmentionables.
He does, however, slash Stuart Broad through point for four. Maybe I was wrong in my assessment?

I'm interested to see how Pakistan react.
I think the good thing for them is that they've got a decent breather before the Edgbaston Test...
With a swish of Mohammad Amir's bat, Pakistan avoid their heaviest defeat (in terms of runs) against England. Four runs through point.

It's as good a four days of cricket that you could wish for from an England point of view. It's an absolute hammering. It's been very similar to the Sri Lanka series where England dominated with this kind of performance.

It would be fitting if Root took the 10th wicket because it's been Root's match.
England need one wicket to win
Rahat Ali the new man. He's happy to block the rest of that over. England on the verge. Pakistan on the brink.

He's having a golden summer. I think Root could score a hat-trick for Manchester United the way he's going at the moment. He can do anything.
Wahab c Cook b Root 19 (Pak 208-9)
And the golden boy strikes. Tossed up by Root, Wahab swiping with about as much grace as a deer on ice skates, and the top edge is taken by Cook, running round from short fine leg. Easy as you like.
