    Finn 20-5-47-0

Fans still filing in to Edgbaston, even though we're only 30 minutes from lunch. Finn is still trucking, short and wide to Misbah, who plays and misses at a cut shot. Despite that loose shot, is Finn the best option now a wicket has fallen? He hasn't really looked threatening this morning. Any thoughts, Alastair?

A 50-run lead is manageable because Pakistan will have to bat last.

    Lead by 1

You can just feel it. This is perhaps the most crucial part of the Test so far. England are a wicket or two from being right back in it, while Pakistan are 50 runs or so from having a handy lead. Sarfraz, an irritant at the crease, is already all over the place, while a Misbah edge takes Pakistan ahead.

Broad celebrates taking Shafiq's wicketImage source, Getty Images

Looking again, it was a rozzer from Broad, angled in with the arm and going further to get between Shafiq's hole in the defence. Apparently, Shafiq hadn't faced a delivery in 15 minutes because of drinks and Misbah hogging the strike. Sarfraz Ahmed is the new man. He'll get on with it. England, though, are one wicket from the tail.

This proves my point: pitch the ball up. Shafiq didn't really go right forward with his feet. If the bowler bowls straight and you don't get it right, you nick it or you get bowled. England are still in this game, because we know Pakistan haven't got a good tail.

Bowled him! Neck and crop! Stuart Broad sends off stump out of the ground and Asad Shafiq is on his way for a duck. Hint of movement back into the right-hander, huge gap between bat and pad, the off pole on the floor. Massive roar, Broad pumping his fists. England clinging on.

I know they like the family atmosphere in the dressing room. They don't like chopping and changing too much. But you can't have that. It's a no-brainer picking Ball. Finn is up and down, he hasn't got the length and the line. If Cook couldn't sleep till late because he was trying to decide between Finn and Ball, he should have rung me - he'd have slept at 10pm.

Can anyone help me out here? If you're at Edgbaston and you've seen this wonderful piece of engineering, send us a snap. Also, let me know of the other strange/innovative things you've seen at or taken to the cricket. Finn after drinks, trying to shake himself from short and wide with a full ball speared into the toes. Misbah turns it away for three.

England have got to win three sessions today to win this match. The bowling has been far too short. The match is winnable, pressure of batting last and all that, but we are afraid, almost fearful, of speculating with the ball pitched up. Some will get driven of course, but some will get wickets.

Actor Robert Powell is in the house, as are two chaps sporting long, blonde hair plaits. Broad continues to cause off-stump uncertainty for Misbah, who responds with a drive through mid-off for four. Shot of the day so far. When Broad does get an edge, if falls when short of the slips, but still draws a very loud "oooohhh" from the crowd. Drinks.

It's a big day for Finn. At times yesterday I thought he had better rhythm. There wasn't a great deal of movement through the air. If it's quick and straight it's nice to face for a batsman, as you can line it up very comfortably.

I'd be really interested to know how often Alastair Cook makes a double bowling change. It seems to happen a lot, as if spells are pre-determined on some sort of rota. Sure enough, with a change at one end comes a change at the other, with Steven Finn replacing James Anderson. Finn, a man battling with himself, starts short and wide.

One for statisticians, what percentage of balls down the leg side that end up in the keeper's gloves result in a wicket - compared to the same for the off side? Something tells me it may be a considerably higher percentage for the leg side.

Nice start from Broad, a touch of shape outside the off stump and drawing Misbah into a poke that he really didn't need to play. Good line from Broad, probing off stump and around, generally exploring Misbah's technique. Broad will be pretty sore about not having first use of the ball this morning, you know.

Mark Lincoln: Looks like this morning calls for one of Stuart Broad's magic bowling spells. Otherwise we are in deep trouble.

Freddie: Stuart Broad hasn't bowled one of those spells for a while.......
