Ehsan, I'm loving it. Very Neil Buchanan. Probably the grandest #bbccricket hashtag we've seen. Can anyone top that? Consider the gauntlet thrown down. Woakes drifts on to Sarfraz's pads and he times one beautifully through mid-wicket for four. It's enough for England to send Moeen Ali out to protect the boundary. Woakes responds by seaming one past Sarfraz's outside edge. A snorter.

    Misbah 55, Sarfraz 23

What did that hit? Anderson bowls one which jags viciously away from Misbah and keeps low. Luckily for the batsman, it's nowhere near the stumps, but a diving Jonny Bairstow can't quite gather it behind the stumps. The first signs of unpredictable bounce?

Let's say Pakistan bat another 25 overs, that gives England around 30 overs to bat. You start thinking, the pitch is still playing alright. Joe Root was saying earlier today this could be the best day to bat.

    Lead by 51

Chris Woakes, England's most potent bowler in this innings with two wickets, shares responsibilities with Anderson after lunch. Sarfraz Ahmed, 20 not out at the interval, gets moving with a couple of singles before Misbah punches down the ground for three. That's the fifty partnership, one which is pushing Pakistan into commanding territory.

The most scores of 50 or more for batsmen after the age of 40: Jack Hobbs (19), Patsy Hendren (15), Misbah-ul-Haq (14), Tom Graveney (nine).

  7. 50 runs

    Pak 342-5 (lead by 45)

And that's fifty for the captain. Anderson is a touch wide and a touch full, and Misbah leans into a square drive which takes him to a 93-ball half-century. It's his 34th in Tests. Leading by example yet again.

  9. Digging stops playpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Pak 338-5

Misbah helps himself to a couple before we have a delay. What on earth? Anderson manages two balls before he has a grumble about where his front foot lands. Whatever the groundstaff have done to the surface during the interval hasn't gone down well with England' premier seamer. So now we have three men doing some digging while the players and umpires have a chinwag.

It's so important for England to win this session well, because this game is starting to look vulnerable. The stats don't lie: only a 3% chance of winning if you give away a lead of more than 100.

The England players shuffle out. Stuart Broad and Alastair Cook share a joke and James Anderson does his hair before bowling a few looseners to mid-on. Let's do this.

Pakistan's lead stands at 39, they have five wickets in hand and the immovable Misbah-ul-Haq at the crease and looking ominously immovable from an England point of view. It's been said already today and I'll say it again: England need quick wickets.

Thanks Steph. And hello everyone. Let's hope a change in commentary brings a change in fortunes for England. They're firmly second best in this game at the moment.

Tim Williams: England need to get Graeme Swann working with Moeen rather than just talking about him. His advice would be invaluable.

If you think England have had a frustrating Test, Australia are completely at sea in the second match of their three-match series against Sri Lanka.

Australia lost eight wickets in the morning session of day two at Galle, which included a hat-trick from Rangana Herath. The Aussies were bowled out for 106, with only three men reaching double figures.

That wasn't the end though, as Sri Lanka were 237 all out, a lead of 412, with Mitchell Starc claiming 6-50. Australia had six overs to face before stumps, but promptly lost three wickets for 25.
