As Yasir begins his set there are 10 overs bowled in the day, but stumps will be pulled if they can't get them in by 18:30. England could be 300 on tonight, probably set for a thrash in the morning to leave themselves two and a half sessions in which to take 10 wickets.
While England move into a commanding position in the third Test, Andre Russell was smashing a 42-ball century in the Caribbean Premier League.
The West Indies all-rounder hit three fours and 11 sixes as Jamaica Tallawahs beat Trinbago Knight Riders, external by 19 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis method in St Kitts to reach the final.
As impressive as his hitting was, Russell, who fell for 100 off 44 balls, is only joint 12th on the list of fastest T20 centuries, external in domestic cricket.

Only four bowlers for Pakistan, remember. One of them must be getting close to telling Misbah to stick the ball somewhere. England drop and scamper, running Pakistan ragged. In the crowd, two Pakistan supporters hide their heads under a couple of four signs. I feel for you, boys.

Remember when England couldn't score a run this morning? When Pakistan were hiding the ball? When Rahat Ali was bowling five maidens in a row? Misbah must look back on that with misty-eyed affection, as if running through a sun-drenched meadow with his childhood sweetheart. When Moeen twice edges Yasir for four, Misbah again rubs his eyes. The full horror reveals itself.

Bairstow 60, Moeen 20
Boundaries flowing now, Bairstow causing leather to pepper rope. Mohammad Amir is dabbed, one-day style, down to third man for four more. Crowd still sings, more pleas not to go home. Seriously fellas, just don't go. There must be a Birmingham public house you can go to this evening?

Rachel T: Jonny B isn't just good, he is superb.

Jonny Bairstow is toying with the attack now, conducting proceedings, with the spectators in the crowd singing to his tune. A short ball from Yasir is cut for four. There's not enough fielders. England, remember, were 103 behind. It's been some effort to get to this position.

This game is slipping away from Pakistan's grasp. They are the defensive side, England are the aggressors. The last day promises to be very intriguing.

Misbah, looking like a military general with his whiskers, shades and cap, strokes his chin and ponders his future. His immediate problem is how to take wickets, followed by what is looking like an increasingly tricky final day. The crowd sing to tell us that they don't want to go home. You don't have to, tickets are available for tomorrow...

England would want two clear sessions at Pakistan, maybe the middle and the last sessions - about 65-70 overs. You can add another 50 to the total for today in the overs left.
Eng 339-5
Well batted, Jonny Bairstow. Not only has he made batting look easier than anyone else today, he's also providing the impetus that may break the Pakistan spirit. An eighth Test half-century off 83 balls. If he's still there at the close, England will probably be safe from defeat.

Tickets for tomorrow at £16 for adults and £5 for under-16s. Well worth it - a fifth day at the Test is a rarity in these modern times. Pakistan are begging for something here, they are 10 overs or so from being batted out of this match. Yasir round the wicket, Bairstow sweeping for four.

This is the pressure of the game, Vince and Root hung in there. Then there were a couple of wickets. Now they've got a chance to change gears. I think they're in third gear now.

Lovely scene at Edgbaston now, evening sunshine bathing the ground. Shadows are just starting to creep across the pitch, the new pavilion encroaching on to the outfield behind bowler Sohail Khan. For what seems like the first time in living memory, Jonny Bairstow plays and misses, but makes amends by walking and whipping through mid-wicket. Shades of Sir Viv.

England have been scoring at nearly four an over since Moeen came in. If that continues they will be nearly 300 on by the close. A quick dash in the morning, then try to take 10 wickets. Cheers and boos in the crowd, I can't see why. I suspect some poor steward is being tormented.
