Ballance it is who will face the first ball after tea, to be bowled by Monica Seles, also known as Sohail Khan.

It was left to Gary Ballance and Jonny Bairstow, Yorkshire team-mates, to steer England to 262-4 at tea - and a lead of 159. They are unbeaten on 21 and two respectively.

James Vince, Root's partner in a third-wicket stand of 95, batted watchfully for 42 off 123 balls. However, he once again fell when well set, steering a straightforward catch to second slip off Mohammad Amir. Club cricketers will recognise this from catching practice after nets.

Just joining us? Did you get distracted by the Olympics? We forgive you. We'll even show you what you missed...

First we had Joe Root - dropped on 25 - moving to his 22nd Test fifty, only to perish on the sweep, a victim of Yasir Shah's round-the-wicket-into-the-rough approach.

Malala Yousafzai: "I met Brian Lara once. I was so excited, even more excited than when I met presidents and prime ministers. In Pakistan everyone is a fan of Shahid Afridi. I also like Misbah, Younus, Shane Warne, and in England, I like Cook as he has done really well."

The catching has been very good from Pakistan. Just the one drop from Hafeez, but the rest has been a good show. Mohammad Amir provided Pakistan with a bit of a breather with the  wicket of Vince.

Two wickets in the session for Pakistan, but 79 runs for England, whose lead is now worth 159. At what point do we say England are favourites, if we haven't already?

Amir can't get at Ballance in the final over as Bairstow negotiates a testing set of six. There's swing back into the right-hander, but not quite enough. Let's all have a cup of tea.

Amir has got to make Ballance drive - or something else - because this is becoming predictable. He's not able to get it to shape away from within the line of the stumps.

Sohail striving, Bairstow then Ballance blocking. Nothing to see here. We just have time for one more over before tea.

Well I never. I've seen it all now. A wasp almost flies up Amir's nose mid-delivery stride, forcing him to keep hold of the ball. Has anyone else had any run-ins with insects during play? Or any other weird and wonderful episodes?

Saam Das: Shades of Carberry's Test career with James Vince. Good starts but not much more. Will England show more patience this time?

Louie: I think Swanny is wrong, If anyone can tell me a really good reason as to why Vince genuinely deserves to be going to India?

Zeb Bowyer: Brainless from Vince there, was playing so well leaving the ball but that was catching practice! Game moving quickly, 300 lead?

    Sohail 20-2-79-1

Pakistan have just taken a wicket, England are effectively 157-4, yet Sohail Khan, their most potent bowler in the first innings, is afforded only two slips to Ballance. In fairness, he's starting to resemble a man in the final few miles of a marathon, releasing the ball with a grunt which would do Rafael Nadal proud. Two singles off the over.

Sam Clinch: Vince is not a Test cricketer. What is that? Catching practice.

Dave Wood: Oh Vincey what have you done (again).

Adam: The only certainty in life is that Vince will get caught at second slip

Vince won't want to see that again. In fact, I think it might be a while before he emerges from the dressing room shower. Jonny Bairstow, in at six, does well to dig out a super yorker from Amir, who's charging in now. Pakistan sense their opportunity.

Vince has tried extremely hard to avoid that angle. He's been good this innings, until he played that one. It was a very ginger movement of the feet - I'm not sure whether he wanted to play that or not. Pakistan are once again back in this.
