    Hafeez c Woakes b Broad 2 (Pak 6-1)

This is an incredible shot when a team are trying to save the game. Short from Stuart Broad, Mohammad Hafeez pulls off his hip, aerially and straight to Chris Woakes at long leg. It's brainless batting, a gift to England. Hafeez probably shouldn't bother going back to the dressing room, because Misbah will be ready to kick him all round Birmingham.

England haven't declared, Chris Woakes is sent out the door. I must give mention to the suncream on Sohail Khan's face. Smeared on the nose and down his cheeks. He looks like he's paying tribute to the Ultimate Warrior.

Oh no! Rahat Ali at long leg, a pull from Moeen right through his legs. You need to keep them closed, Rahat.

That innings by Bairstow was outstanding. He's put England in a really good position.

Bairstow lbw Sohail 83 (Eng 434-6)

It just looked out on first look. Jonny Bairstow, not worrying about his own personal milestone, stepped a long way across his stumps, looking to smash an off-stump delivery through the leg side. He missed, didn't get outside the line, and the replay showed it would have hit middle stump.

I think this is close. Sohail Khan to Jonny Bairstow, who gets a long way across. If it's not out, it's four leg byes...

  8. Eng 434-5 (1-1-6-6-4-2)published at 11:03

This is top biffing from Moeen. It's got all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, but it means England take 20 (twenty) off the first over of the day. Seatbelts.

Moeen times the ball as well as anyone. Don't worry about Bairstow's century. I'm sure he would love to get one, but it's irrelevant. Bat three overs and then pull out.

Oh yes! Get ready for a bit of humpty. Moeen Ali dances and lofts Yasir over mid-wicket, clear of the rope. Whallop!

Moeen on strike. Fielders all over the Midlands. Players in freshly laundered whites, looking like a crew of ice cream men. Play.

This is going to be a really good day's cricket. England will come out swinging and are going for a win and a 2-1 series lead.

The players are out, Bairstow and Moeen sharing some glove love on their way to the crease. Reasonable crowd at Edgbaston, but plenty (and I mean plenty) of room for more. Yasir Shah is getting loose.

England will win this game and Moeen will bowl well. He is the man today - I can feel it in my bones. It's set up for Moeen.

Andrew Moore: Wise not to declare.Don't need more runs, so just slog and make them run about for half an hour. Bairstow to 100 or out then off.

Paul Churchley: It will have to be a record run chase already at Edgbaston. Why haven't we declared?

I'm not sure Pakistan are that well suited to batting out for a draw. Generally speaking, they are a pretty frail batting side.

Beth Smith: What is it with Cook and not declaring when he probably knows that they have enough.

Russell Anderson: Is anyone really surprised that Cook hasn't declared? He was never going to overnight. Not that I'm saying he shouldn't have...

As a bowler, I would prefer Pakistan to come after me a little bit. If they just chose to bat, it will be very easy to bat three sessions. So pull out, dangle that carrot.
