Sami Aslam looks like a real calming influence on the Pakistan dressing room. Rarely do you see someone come in and be like that.

Target 343
Bit of calm for Pakistan as Moeen strays from his fuller lengths. I like the idea of Mayans playing an early form of cricket. What do we reckon our ancestors from other civilisations played in their spare time? For example, how would the ancient Egyptians have played cricket? Bet the match reports were fun to draw.

Following the cricket whilst visiting Mayan ruins in Mexico. The Mayans had a ball game in which the losing team got killed - not sure an entertaining draw was a possible result.

Silly mid-on and silly mid-off, two slips, and a gully - Cook is giving Broad all sorts of options against Aslam. The crowd clap on raucously, the cheers rise with every step of Broad's run-up, but Aslam somehow digs out a yorker for a single. Same welcome for the delivery to new man Younus but those shuffling feet of his allow him to dab a full one away.

Pakistan will be a bit jittery. There's pressure on Younus Khan, who has not looked good at all. England needed this breakthrough.
Target 343
Exciting over from Moeen, who saw a half-chance at the end of it as well. Aslam stepped back into the crease to fend off the ball, but it went off bat and pad. Bairstow was diving and rolling over but was a bit too far to take the catch.

That's exactly what England have to do - force these Pakistan players to play shots. England have got to open up the gaps and allow them to play strokes. You never know - it might cause a bit of panic in the Pakistan ranks.

Brilliant catch! That went quickly!
Azhar c Cook b Moeen 38 (Pak 79-2)
Done him! Moeen uses his drift and line outside off to make the breakthrough. A flighted delivery gets Azhar driving forward, only to take the edge and send it to Cook at second slip. It was a good catch as well, he took it about chest height and looked marginally surprised at having held on. I said earlier England were sniffing a wicket like I sniff out a hot meal, and now they've found the kitchen.
I think I'll take it as a compliment from Dean being too engrossed in our stellar updates. Broad meanwhile tries to bounce Sami Aslam, who arches back to duck out of the way. He then shadow practices the same duck with a look of "god, do I look good doing this or what?"

At the moment, things are relatively low-key enough for me to get my teams mixed up. Clearly the soup I had for lunch is still making its way up to my head. Moeen continues to make enquiries outside off as Azhar tries to leave one which clips his pad. A shout for lbw but it was nowhere near and everyone sort of gives up halfway through their appeals. A maiden.

There have been 10 runs in six overs since lunch.

By the way, today also happens to be the day that England won that thriller in 2005 at this very venue against Australia. Remember the iconic Flintoff-consoling-Brett-Lee image? Granted, that game didn't go to five days, but a superb run chase went down to the wire. And who knows, England could nick it again today, or Pakistan could hold out dramatically. Broad runs in from the other end, tries a few different lengths, and concedes a single to Azhar Ali.

You get the feeling that England are concerned about losing. But Pakistan can't get these runs - they really can't.
Cheers Steph. I like being handed over to during dangerous times, as Austin Powers once said (I think).
Now, call me old-fashioned – and lord knows plenty of you think our tech support is – but I think we are some way from calling this match an inevitable draw. England sniffing a wicket early on in this session as Moeen gives away two runs.
Pak 76-1
Ooooohhhh, very nearly. Broad drags Azhar across the crease and gets an edge, only for the ball to die before it gets to Alastair Cook at first slip. With his tail up, Broad gets a short ball to spit at the right-hander. Dangerous. I'm off, here's Bibhash Dash.

Foot up, then back down. Jonny Bairstow more excited than he probably should have been. Moeen has started well after lunch.
Pak 75-1
Moeen round the wicket to the left-handed Sami Aslam, a 20-year-old who looks like he was born to open the batting in Test cricket. Single, the a beauty to Azhar that goes past the outside edge. Stumping?
