    60 overs remain

I've just been asked by Ian Clark on email about the instructions for emailing us. Tms@bbc.co.uk, Ian. Don't worry about the subject line, we tend to read them all. Stuart Broad after lunch, leg-side catchers still in place for Azhar Ali. No real zip, pace down, until the final ball nudges into the 80s and goes past the outside edge.

England have got long-on and a cover point to Moeen Ali. Just bring them up! The reason England batted on and got a lead of 342 was so they could have people up - don't start on the defensive.

    Target 343

It's fair to say that England are not over-attacking. Three men are out on the boundary. Plenty of gaps for the ball to be worked into, with Pakistan duly taking the invitation. When Azhar gets a thick edge, it runs to third man for four.

How are we doing? Nearly ready for the resumption? Isn't it amazing how much you can cram into a 40-minute lunch break so that your cricket following can remain uninterrupted?

Cricinfo's George Dobell: "People should give Finn a break. He has come on a step or two in this game. He is bowling on a flat pitch and he has had four catches dropped. I don't think he's too far away from bowling really, really well."

Pakistan have chased more than 300 in to win a Test only three times, although they did so last year, racing to a target of 377 to beat Sri Lanka, external - by seven wickets, no less - thanks to Younus Khan's unbeaten 171.

Amitabh Apte: Why can't PAK score 275 in 60 overs? ODI teams score 325+ regularly in 50 overs. Test cricket needs change.

Cricinfo's George Dobell: "Vince is the only one of England's top seven who has not got a half-century in either innings - and he's not going to get a better pitch than this. I'm not sure what we've learned about him. Are there better players out there who would score more consistently?"

    BBC Test Match Special

Cricinfo's George Dobell: "The ball has done nothing. I won't defend the Edgbaston surface - this is a hugely disappointing wicket. England have taken no home advantage at all in this series.

"The main problem with this wicket is that it creates quite dull cricket. It's really slow and doesn't reward merit - edges aren't carrying. It doesn't reward batsmen or bowlers. You don't want to see five days of very attritional cricket."
