England are just slightly edging their way to safety. I think you're looking at 300.
Pakistan 3-1: Aslam falls late on
England reach 328 from 110-5
Moeen 108 - dropped on 9 & 15
Bairstow 55, Woakes 45; Sohail 5-68

Woakes 30 (41 balls)
James Vince's drives get a lot of praise (if not his stickability at the crease), but Chris Woakes is driving very fluently in this innings as he takes Yasir for four more through the covers. 20 of his 30 runs have come in boundaries.
Some good news for the Irish - their women's side have beaten South Africa in their final ODI in Dublin. It's their first ODI victory over the Proteas.

I'll give that the shot of the day. It's come off the middle of the bat.
New bowler, same action as Wahab Riaz replaces Amir - and Moeen immediately targets the pigeons who had momentarily relocated to deep point. England happy to pick off singles until Woakes frees his arms to imperiously square-drive for four.
For those of you who were here for our chat about ICC Test rankings, external at the start of the day, an update from St Lucia is that West Indies and India haven't been able to get on the field today yet because of rain. A draw there would be good news for England, Pakistan and Australia.

Ian Carr: Believe in the Brummies. These two to the rescue.
Muhammad Yousaf: Considering 74-4, England made good progress . l am not sure Pakistan can match this performance if they are in a similar situation.
Leg-spinner Yasir posts a silly point for the right-handed Woakes, the aforementioned fielder is struck a glancing blow as Woakes tries to fhread the ball through the covers - and when he does find the gap, he scatters a collection of pigeons who were taking up residence at the edge of the square.
We're through 60 overs for the day, which is what they should have bowled by tea. So in other words, we're 40-odd minutes behind.

In the summer as a whole including the Sri Lanka series, Chris Woakes has scored 251 runs, at an average of 50.2.
Moeen 63, Woakes 18
Two slips still in as Mohammad Amir, a splash of sun cream across his cheeks, bowls to the ruddy-cheeked Chris Woakes. Since tea, England and Pakistan have been like two boxers circling each other, neither looking to give their opponent an inch while only landing the occasional punch.
But the judges will score this round in Woakes' favour as he steps forward and drills a four past short extra cover. Is it really three years since he made his Test debut on this ground batting at number six? Where does the time go?
An exchange of singles gets England to the magic figure of 222 - double Nelson - before Woakes nicks the strike for the second successive over. The crowd sound a little becalmed.

That was Yasir Shah's 144th over since Lord's - and he has gone for 539 runs and taken four wickets.
57 overs gone; 33 more available today
While Boycs on TMS chuckles about the prospect of going off for bad light after today's derisory over-rate, Amir runs in from the Pavilion, testing Woakes with a couple of short deliveries. He's cramped up for room by a couple, but spoils a potential maiden over with a single off the last ball.

When Ben Stokes is fit, what a wonderful middle order - Stokes, Bairstow, Moeen Ali, and Woakes. I don't think even Australia have a middle order like that.
Yasir is stalking back to his mark between deliveries at a quick enough pace, I wonder if Pakistan have been warned that they're on the clock when it comes to over-rates. Just a couple of singles from the over, 34 more available today.
I'm not sure if Misbah is on a warning and risking a suspension. But I did hear someone say the other day that Alastair Cook is...

Former Pakistan captain on BBC Test Match Special
A true legend has passed away. We called him the original Little Master - he was a cricketing genius. His son Shoaib and three of his other brothers all played Test cricket for Pakistan. He was an extremely knowledgeable cricketer, short in stature but extremely determined. Before Majid Khan and Javed Miandad, he was the only renowned batsman Pakistan had up until the early 1970s.
Woakes goes hard, swiping Amir for four, while Boycott Bingo followers across the world can tick off our first mention of "uncovered pitches" today on their bingo cards. A more fluent square drive from Woakes evades backward point's reach and disappears for four more. Amir is trying to slant the ball across Woakes' reach, and claims a moral victory as Woakes wafts at thin air.

Watching the leg-spinner, he's dropping it nicely, but Moeen sweeps it for four very well. He's got wonderful timing off the wrist.
Moeen 60 (95 balls)
Yasir, with a slip and a helmeted short leg in place as well as a fairly short mid-on crouched on an adjoining pitch, is tickled for a single by Moeen, while Woakes is off the mark with a careful flick off his legs. But that's a candidate for shot of the day from Moeen, who finds the boundary with as fluent an orthodox sweep shot as you'll see.
Graham Gooch - he of the infamous "if in doubt, sweep" innings against India in the 1987 World Cup semi-final - was spotted by the TV cameras earlier, I'm sure he'll be applauding.

England batting first in England have not lost a Test since 2012.
