It's warm and sunny at The Oval (with plenty of cold beverages being consumed) - looks as there may still be a few seats available. A minor - very minor - triumph as Bairstow runs a single down to third man, earning a ripple of applause for the England 200.

Pakistan will get a new ball if these two last another 18 overs - while both sides will get a new set of DRS reviews. Which, judging by what's gone on so far, they'll probably waste.

Christian Reilly: Going to say this with my Lancastrian hat on, but surely Haseeb Hameed is worth a shout as opener?

Simon: Drop Vince, Ballance and Broad for Westley, Borthwick and Stokes (when fit). Broad surely past it now - looks so laboured.

    61 overs

Chris Woakes opens his account with a single, and has to do some swift running when Bairstow guides the ball through the covers and calls him back for a second. England are inching towards making Pakistan bat again, but Yasir tosses one up so invitingly that Woakes pops it forward - and Pakistan respond by bringing in a silly point.

This just shows how valuable Younus' double hundred was. If England had got him out earlier, maybe even for 150, they would have been past this lead now.

I wonder if Mr Boycott thinks that's the end of Gary Ballance's Test career.

Boycs called for the end of Vince's Test career yesterday...

Spin from one end, left-arm pace from the other as Mohammad Amir takes up the attack from the Vauxhall End, bowling round the wicket in the manner of his compatriot Wasim Akram. A probing over, but Bairstow, bat aloft, stands firm. Maiden.

It's about belief, about believing that they can score runs, and that the tail can wag. And then you get a couple of wickets early on and who knows what can happen?

It's also the last round of group matches in the Women's Super League today. Down in Hampshire, Southern Vipers skipper Charlotte Edwards has won the toss and they'll bat first against Loughborough Lightning. Meanwhile, Yorkshire Diamonds and Western Storm get under way at 14:30 BST.

It's more leg-spin from Yasir Shah at the Pavilion End as the afternoon session begins, with England effectively minus 20 for six in a one-innings game. Jonny Bairstow reduces that deficit to 19 with a cheeky clip off his legs to keep the strike. Which England won't mind.

If Jonny Bairstow is still batting by tea, England will be in a reasonable position.

The players retake the field, with Jonny Bairstow whirling his bat through an arc of 360 degrees in the manner of Sir Ian Botham.

    Headingley '81, anyone?

Thanks, Jamie. As the late Kenny Baker's R2-D2 persona might say of this match situation:

"Help us, Jonny Bairstow. You're our only hope."

Sadly, I have a bad feeling about this...

Now, how much of a target can England set Pakistan? Will they be able to set them any target? We shall find out shortly. And so, revived by his traditional microwave meal from a leading supermarket, but still mourning the loss of Kenny Baker, here's the inimitable Mark Mitchener to guide you through the swings and roundabouts of the afternoon session.

BBC presenter Mishal Husain: "I feel so sad that cricket fans in Pakistan don't have the opportunity to watch international cricket there. For the team as well, not being able to play there is a loss of a source of joy in a country that has suffered a great deal, it is one of the many things that has been taken away from the ordinary people of Pakistan. It's a great country and I hope one day soon it will be a peaceful country again."

Unless Bairstow plays one of the greatest innings of all time, and Woakes can hang around, and Broad plays a cameo, Pakistan have been too good for England in all departments this week.

Oliver J: Bring back Strauss, Ian Bell, Trott, Gooch and Stewart, should bring some runs. (I don't think Oliver is taking this seriously)

Jonathan Day: Play Ali and Bairstow as batsmen at four and five and bring in Buttler and Rashid. Better keeper and two spinners in attack.
