It's been nice, clean striking. He's definitely battling, still putting in the effort.

A cover drive for one brings up Roy's 50. He still doesn't look 100% healthy after that dizzy spell, but he is batting beautifully. He's hit one six in his innings, and this is it...

The crowd are starting to make their own fun. Not because watching England in control isn't great, but because there isn't a huge amount of drama in such a one-sided contest.

Four more runs ease England closer to three figures.

Pakistan's problem here is not just that these two are set at the crease and will take some shifting. Even if they do, that England order is a daunting one for any opposition. Every one of them can bat.

Wahab tries to make a dent but is held at bay by Root and Roy, who add two to the total.

Boom. What a shot. Roy drops to one knee to the non-spin of Imad and helps it over deep square-leg and into the stand.

Pakistan need wickets and they need them fast.

After a charging start, England are having a small lull at the moment. But they are still picking up runs with ease. They get seven off Wahab's latest without breaking sweat.

Back comes Imad as Pakistan desperately search for a solution. It is an economical over - just two off it - but not a whiff of the wicket they need.

We talk a lot about luck in cricket, there certainly are things that are out of your control. The rain really did affect Pakistan, it might have cost them 20 or 30 runs.

Pakistan need to do something here. Their body language suggests they are beaten already. Wahab Riaz is brought into the attack and goes for four leg byes first ball. It has been one of those days so far for the tourists...

Rooooooooooot! Is there a better exponent of the back-foot off-side drive? It brings him two boundaries off Amir to move him over a 100 strike-rate. From a couple of quality shots to a terrible one - here is the wicket that brought Root to the crease...

This too easy. There's pace on the ball and it's such a good pitch. They aren't bowling cutters, I haven't seen a bouncer or a yorker.

Radio too. Some of the main scenes in Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy happen at Lords. Firstly the Krikkit robots pinch the Ashes. Then later Arthur Dent returns them and decides to bowl a ball at Lords. What he doesn't realise is that the "ball" is a small bomb which will destroy the universe. Fortunately he trips and never bowls the ball and the universe is saved. All at Lords.

Root is quickly into that efficient groove of amassing runs without you even realising it is happening. One second he's walking out, the next he's 30 off 30 balls.

In contrast, there's no ignoring Roy's run-scoring. He leans forward and drives another gorgeous four.

Sarfraz never caught up with the ball, it was always going away from him. It would have gone straight down Umar Gul's throat. The fielder should take responsibility.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. When you're the keeper and you call for a catch, you damn well better make sure you catch it. Sarfraz does the first bit as Roy skies a top edge but makes a right mess of the second bit, spilling it off the tip of his gloves before falling to the turf. Awful.

That could prove very costly. Why? I give you exhibit A...
