Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match SpecialJoe Root is just a class act. Regardless of the type of cricket, regardless of the surface, regardless of the country he is playing in, he scores runs.

The easiest 50 you'll ever see. Total control, total dominance. He brings it up with a sweep for four.

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match SpecialIt's a question of when, not if, England win this. At the moment, it's so one-sided. The crowd want to see a contest and at the moment we're not seeing one.
Eng 137-2published at 22 overs
22 oversLove a late cut. Morgan rocks back and slices Gul away to the rope. There are some very frustrated expressions on Pakistan players' faces.
Meanwhile, there's a very picturesque pink sunset at the Ageas Bowl. There'll be a lot of chuffed shepherds this evening.
Eng 130-2published at 21 overs
21 oversRoot oozes class with a little dabble down leg for four off Nawaz.
If another wicket goes down I reckon England should send in Plunkett. Hell, send in Wood. As pleasing as it will be to ease home with ones and twos, it'd be nice to see some stands being cleared.
Here is the end of Roy...

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match SpecialEngland can coast. There's no pressure at all. They can knock the ball around. Pakistan have to take wickets. If not, it will be all over around the 40th over.
Eng 122-2published at 20 overs
20 oversNo pressure on England at all. They can work it around and canter home. Gul offers no threat in his fifth over.
It is a shame Roy was out. It was looking like he was going to provide us with some big-hitting entertainment, as this illustrates...

Rob Allpress: Storm in Portsmouth right now. Hope it misses the cricket.

19 oversPakistan need much more than just the one wicket to put the jitters into England. Eoin Morgan is out to join Root and gets off the mark with a single.

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match SpecialHe was trying to be aggressive in the previous over. Roy got his feet to the pitch but the bat turned in his hand. The catch was well held, running around the rope.

18.4 oversRoy c Babar b Nawaz 65 (Eng 116-1)
Well, Roy was clearly trying to get a move on, but it has cost him. He doesn't quite catch a lofted drive down the ground off Nawaz and is caught right on the edge by Babar. It was an unnecessary shot. It is the wicket Pakistan desperately needed.
Eng 115-1published at 18 overs
18 oversRoy wants this finished sooner rather than later. He moves across his crease and lofts Gul over midwicket with pretty much a straight bat. Remarkable shot.
We are getting reports of rain in the area. Roy is doing the right thing. Keep it going, Jase.

BBC Test Match SpecialPakistan have to conjure something from somewhere. England's batting line-up is very long. They have to think outside the box.

15 oversTime for some drinks. England can be very satisfied with that first 15. Only Alex Hales has blotted their copybook. Pakistan need to come up with a plan and fast. At the moment they are taking on the Death Star in a Ford Cortina.
