Roooooooot to the wicket. He is eased in by a Gul leg-side wide and then gets off the mark thanks to some awful fielding at cover. Welcome Joe. Here, have some runs.

It was a decent delivery outside off stump, Hales opened the bat face and gave slip-catching practice. It was a decent catch from Hafeez. It's an ugly shot again from Hales.

Alex Hales' kryptonite - short of length outside off stump. The opener prods tentatively at Gul's delivery and edges to the diving Hafeez at slip. We've seen that Hales dismissal many times before.

Amir finishes his over with a dot ball as Roy prods to the off side.

Roy has hit helmet back on. He's going to carry on.

Get him off. He could be feeling some dehydration, he's been throwing himself around all afternoon. Take him off, reassess.

Roy looks in a bad way here. He is breathing deeply as the physio looks him over.

It looks to me like he's a bit dizzy. It's been a very warm afternoon. Do salt tablets still exist?

Brilliant running between these two. The telepathy between them is quite incredible.

These two aren't just hitters, they are runners as well. Roy drops one to leg and they claim two when they had no real right to. Hang on, though... Roy doesn't look too well. He is crouched down and widening his eyes. He looks a bit dizzy. We're going to have a break while he gets some treatment...

I know Umar has been away for a while, but he shouldn't bowl there to Mr Roy. That's money for old rope. Money for jam, the Aussies say.

  13. Eng 22-0 (Target 261)published at 3 overs

The Imad experiment is a one-over affair. He is taken off and Umar Gul launched into the attack. Not that it affects Jason Roy. He plays one of those bottom-handed, leg-side flick-punches that sends the ball flying to the rope and then repeats the trick a couple of balls later. Oh, you want off side as well? Here you go... drive through cover... four. Quality.

Should have stuck with spin. Mohammad Amir thunders in and then watches as his short first ball is punched through leg side for four. The bowlers mood is not brightened when he offers a wide ball for Hales to back-foot crack through point for another boundary.

Hang on, what's this? The umpire has some sort of Swiss army card, from which he whips out a tiny pair of scissors to snip something loose from the ball. I wonder what else he has on that thing?

They got away with that nicely, did Pakistan. They might have just thrown England off kilter. I wonder if he'll get another over.

  17. Eng 1-0 (Target 261)published at 1 over

Imad, his bowling as neat and tidy as his sculpted beard, delivers a good first six. He's more skiddy than spinny and goes for just one. Keeper Sarfraz loves his last ball - and I mean really loves it - with a mighty big cheer when it is patted back.

Hales and Roy are in the middle, the latter to face the first cherry. Pakistan are throwing in a curve ball. Spinner Imad Wasim in opening.

There's probably just enough time for you to stick the kettle on and get a brew in. The Pakistan players are out and will be joined shortly by Alex Hales and Jason Roy. 261 the target. The smart money is on an England win.
