Moeen Ali had gone about 40 ODI overs between wickets - that was his first one since the tied match against Sri Lanka at the start of the summer.

England are going to win this regardless but they are still putting it in in the field. Woakes dives to prevent four from a Wahab strike off Rashid. Good professionalism.

I don't think Wahab Riaz fancies being out here long. He swings big and misses repeatedly.

The perfect dismissal for an off-spinner, through the gate to hit the top of off-stump and it beat him through the air as well. Moeen's turned it quite successfully.

    Hasan b Moeen 4 (Pak 164-7)

Cleaned him up. Moeen gets one to turn right through Hasan's gate to take the top of off. The perfect off-spinner's dismissal. The fat lady's voice is getting croaky.

  7. Pak 163-6published at 27 overs

Nawaz is getting inventive. He plays a nice little sweep-steer to send the ball down to fine leg for a couple. We are in those middle overs when it is all about pushing the ball around. Pakistan are doing it well. Problem is they need another 282 runs at 12.36.

The exciting news is that if England win this game, they'll be an unassailable 14-8 ahead in the Super Series, with only six more points available.

Hasan Ali is the new man. As a team-mate in the dressing room what do you say as he grabs his gloves and helmet to go out? Good luck?

I wonder if it will be this warm next "summer" - and I use the word advisedly - when they'll be playing a day-nighter on 29 September at the Rose Bowl. You might take clothing to that match that you've never taken to cricket before. Fingerless mittens, balaclavas...

  11. Pak 158-6published at 25 overs

On the evidence of the previous two ODIs, Pakistan don't have the strongest of tails. England will be looking to wrap this up sharpish. Duckworth Lewis is now 337. Pakistan just 179 short.

Sarfraz was again trying to go for that big slog-sweep, but a little bit of turn has undone him. With those big gloves on, you'd expect Jos Buttler to take that catch, but Joe Root loves a little bit of attention and has absolute bucket hands.

    Sarfraz c Root b Rashid 38 (Pak 155-6)

This had to come at some point. Sarfraz tries to slog-sweep Rashid and sends the ball high in the air. Root calls for responsibility over keeper Buttler and takes the catch. He bats, he bowls, he quasi-keeps. Superstar.

Nawaz skies a shot high into the air that bounces once and trickles to the rope, just beating the fielding attempt from Morgan. Moeen finds a bit of turn and bounce but is sliced past the diving Root for another four by Nawaz.

Moeen's grip then lets him down, resulting in a no-ball beamer that doesn't even appear in camera shot from the side-on view. His blushes aren't spared but runs from the free hit are by the diving Morgan.

This is my eighth senior men's international match. I'm currently played seven, won seven. I'm like Tim Bresnan used to be. So I'm angling to be given any important match.

Bresnan won his first 13 Tests in England colours - just short of Adam Gilchrist's record of 15 successive wins from debut.

  17. Pak 140-5published at 23 overs

On comes Rashid and immediately worries Pakistan. Sarfraz dances down and gets a leading edge that sends the ball looping over the bowler's outstretched hands. It brings the tourists one of their three runs from the over. The required run-rate now over 11.

I'm struggling to find a chink of light from Pakistan's point of view - Sarfraz is keeping the England bowlers under pressure and running them ragged, but it's looking unlikely.

I don't know if it is because this game has spoiled us or if I'm just generally quite demanding but this is all feels a bit sedate at the moment. Sarfraz takes Moeen for a four first ball with a decent sweep. Pah, one four?! Wake me up when you start hitting clubbing sixes.
