  1. Pak 77-2published at 13.4 overs

Looking again, it was a complete trimmer from Wood. Not only did he go wide of the crease, but there was also some seam movement back in. Big drive from Babar, huge gap between bat and pad, middle stump knocked back. Shoaib Malik is the new man, England will smell blood here....

Brilliant wicket, he's been bowling well, pushing it up. This angled in and Babar maybe just took his eye off it.

    Babar b Wood 31 (Pak 76-2)

Bowled him! Neck and crop! It's a wonderful bit of bowling from Mark Wood, who completely does for Babar Azam. Wide of the crease, maybe a double whir of the arms, through Babar with a hint of extra pace. Furniture rearranged, a much-needed wicket for England.

  5. Pak 75-1published at 13 overs

    Azhar 32, Babar 31

It just feels like this one could go deep, like we might be in for a stonking finish. A wicket or two would change that, with England fancying themselves got tickle Pakistan's soft underbelly. Nice from Azhar Ali, driving Stokes straight down the ground for four.

Still Wood, that speed gun edging towards 90mph. The length is better too, much fuller. Slip in place, almost interested when Babar takes a little swipe outside the off stump. Just a single from it. Better from England.

In Pakistan's six matches - five against England, one in Ireland - this is only their second time over 50 after 10 overs.

Ben Stokes, the fourth of England's pace quintet, replaces Chris Woakes, easing in like a man still recovering from that calf problem. Tidy stuff, Azhar swiping but not getting the ball away. I've just been admonished for referring to Woakes as the Brummie Botham. He's from Walmley, which is about seven miles north of Birmingham. He could be the Walmley Woakes, but he'd be that even if he wasn't a decent all-rounder.

England struggling a little bit, they haven't found a way to get those breakthroughs they have been looking for. Pakistan are playing like a team that desperately wants to go home with a bit of pride.

Mark Wood into the attack, replacing Willey. If anything, England have bowled a touch short so far and Wood too is back of a length. Pakistan got wickets with shorter deliveries earlier, mind. The pace is up over 88mph, but that only allows Babar to slash (yet another) short ball over the sole slip for four.

This is lovely from Babar. First a back-foot drive, then the latest of late cuts to take Woakes for back-to-back boundaries. Woakes the bowler. The Brummie Botham was the man to remove Sharjeel Khan, which you can watch right here...

The England fielders are all athletic and agile. Even though they have made changes it looks like a well-drilled operation.

  15. Pak 43-1published at 8 overs

    Azhar 18, Babar 15

Bit of a rumpus here, the slipping Babar going head first into the bread basket of David Willey. Babar's got a lid on, remember, so that could have done Willey some damage in the, erm. Anyway, slips all gone now, even Willey is now struggling to wobble it in the air.

How to upset your team-mates. I'd been trained to bat defensively. Opened the batting for school 3rd XI. At the end of the innings I was 0 not out. After that I quickly learned the philosophy of 'hit out or get out'!

Now Sharjeel has departed this place (the crease, nothing more sinister than that), Pakistan's running has improved. Azhar drops and runs, with Babar then pulling Woakes for four. Bit of Bastille played by the DJ. Better tunes than first thing this morning, but still room for improvement. Got any Meatloaf?

  19. Pak 28-1published at 6 overs

Willey has just one slip for right-hander Babar, the natural shape of the ball bringing a catcher on the leg side into play. Babar, though, eases into a cover drive to get himself off the mark. A leggy delivery misses Babar's pads and is called wide, despite missing leg stump by a coat of varnish. Jonny Bairstow, looking slightly odd without his beard (like when Homer Simpson shaves) can't believe it.

Another terrific atmosphere, the ODI series has been well supported. I'd just like to see the one-dayers before the Tests, then at the end of the Test series a few T20s. The Tests are your main course.
