Former West Indies fast bowler on Test Match Special

"Sometimes when it's your day, it's your day.

"I've watched Northants play a lot of T20 cricket on the TV before today and they just have the confidence to try things like Ben Duckett is doing here.

"It's amazing, I wish my son could watch this as he is a little left-hander."

  2. 6 runs

I said to expect fireworks, and Ben Duckett provides them, smashing Samit Patel over long-on for six with the first ball of the 15th over.

Alex Wakely follows up with four runs through the leg-side, before Duckett takes strike to add two more boundaries to end the over.

20 come off the over - Northants are building a very big total after being put in to bat.

  3. Postpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 111-3 (14 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Ben Duckett breaks out the scoop shot, lifting Stuart Broad back over the stumps for four runs.

There's only six overs left - expect fireworks from here on out.

From the shelter of this wonderful media box it's difficult to tell exactly what conditions are like outside.

What I can tell you - the trees are bending sideways, the players' clothes are rippling and the clouds are moving faster than Usain Bolt.

    But it's dry!

  5. 100 up for Steelbackspublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 103-3 (13 overs) v Nottinghamshire

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is handed the ball for his third over, and he responds by restricting Northamptonshire to six runs.

Alex Wakely is fortunate to get away with a mistimed pull shot which brings up the 100, the ball landing in the gap between the Notts fielders.

  6. Postpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 97-3 (12 overs) v Nottinghamshire

    Chris Woakes
England all-rounder on Test Match Special

"It's looking like a really good pitch this.

"When Northants were three down early on that didn't look the case, but it seems like a really good Edgbaston pitch and fingers crossed, they should be on for a really good score from here."

  7. Postpublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 97-3 (12 overs) v Nottinghamshire

I've barely mentioned Alex Wakely so far, but he gets in on the action with his second boundary of the game, hitting Harry Gurney down through deep mid-wicket.

Wakely moves in to a run-a-ball 24, with Ben Duckett still going strong on 58 which is now his highest T20 score.

  8. Postpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 90-3 (11 overs) v Nottinghamshire

It seems a long time since Northants had slumped to 15-3 after 14 balls, with this fourth-wicket stand between Ben Duckett and Alex Wakely now worth 75.

Samit Patel goes for eight more in the 11th over, so Notts respond by bringing left-arm seamer Harry Gurney back into the attack.

  9. 50 runs

50 for Ben Duckettpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 82-3 (10 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Ben Duckett has been one of the best players in this season's T20 Blast, and now he has a half-century in the semi-final to add to his ever-growing list of achievements.

He smashes Steven Mullaney for three consecutive fours, before bringing up the milestone from 28 balls with a single into the leg-side.

  10. 6 runs

Postpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 67-3 (9 overs) v Nottinghamshire

A reverse slog down to cow corner from Ben Duckett provides Northants with their second six of the innings. That really was a remarkable shot.

15 runs come off the over - the Outlaws are motoring now after a poor start.

  11. Postpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 58-3 (8 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Pace off at both ends for Notts, as Steven Mullaney comes on to bowl a few medium pacers.

Northants are content to milk the over for six singles.

Considering all the rain we've had in Birmingham over the last 24 hours, the outfield looks really slick.

Incredible considering there were puddles little more than a couple of hours ago.

    Northamptonshire 52-3 (7 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Samit Patel comes on for the first over of spin we've seen today.

I say spin, but he's really driving the ball into the pitch, bowling at close to 60mph throughout the over.

Just five runs come from the England all-rounder's first six balls.

  14. Postpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 47-3 (6 overs) v Nottinghamshire

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

"I like the way Northants are going about it. They've lost early wickets, but they've still got that positive intent to go after the Nottinghamshire bowlers.

"They're going at a decent rate and these two currently at the crease have been outstanding."

  15. End of the powerplaypublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 47-3 (6 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Northants have fought back well after losing three wickets in the first 14 balls, ending the powerplay on 47-3, thanks mostly to Ben Duckett's 22 from 14 balls.

Nottinghamshire will still be feeling confident as it stands, but they'll want to pick up another dismissal sooner than later.

They've done well over the last couple of overs. From 21-3, 24 have come from the next two. Jake Ball can consider himself a bit unlucky, but Stuart Broad hasn't made the best of starts."

  17. Duckett hits out for Northantspublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 45-3 (5 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Stuart Broad comes into the attack for the first time, and his first delivery is clipped down to fine leg - deliberately this time - by Ben Duckett.

Duckett then smashes the penultimate ball of the over through the off-side for another four runs. His partnership with Alex Wakely is worth 30 runs from only 16 balls.

  18. Postpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Northamptonshire 34-3 (4 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Ben Duckett is living a charmed life at the crease, twice narrowly missing the stumps with an inside edge and sending the ball running down to the fine leg boundary.

A touch fortunate, but it's helped Steelbacks fight back to 34-3 with two overs left in the powerplay.

Richard Levi will gutted to have got out in this fashion, trapped lbw by an Andre Russell full-toss.

Nottinghamshire are flying. The Steelbacks have a huge amount of work to do to build a competitive score here.
