Davies reaches half-centurypublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 81-3 (18 overs) v Yorkshire

Steven Davies brings up his third One-Day Cup half-century of the summer with an off-drive for four off Steven Patterson. It's taken him 57 balls - but Surrey need him to 'bat deep', as they - whoever 'they' are, say, if they are to post a defendable total.

    Surrey 74-3 (17 overs) v Yorkshire

Ben Foakes has been 'spoken about' in terms of England selection and shows his batting pedigree with a perfect on-drive for four off Matthew Waite. The young bowler is brave enough to keep pitching it up, though, and an attempt to repeat the shot is mis-timed and goes nowhere.

    Surrey 67-3 (16 overs) v Yorkshire

Steven Davies has eight List A centuries, but none of them this summer. Will he make Yorkshire pay for that dropped catch by making one today? Ben Foakes is Surrey's number five and he is lucky to survive as a chip just clears mid-on and runs away for four.

  4. dropped catch

Let-off for Daviespublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 62-3 (15 overs) v Yorkshire

That should have been a second for Matthew Waite as Steven Davies chips the ball straight back at him. With the ball heading for his face, Waite snatches at it and the ball slips from his grasp. Will that prove an expensive miss?

WICKET Burns (c Patterson b Waite 12)published at 11:57 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 61-3 (14.1 overs) v Yorkshire

That's what you call a good bowling change - Matthew Waite comes on and his first ball is overpitched on leg-stump, but Rory Burns obligingly flicks it straight to long-leg where Steven Patterson takes a well-judged catch.

    Surrey 62-2 (14 overs) v Yorkshire

A single by Steven Davies brings up the 50 partnership. He and Rory Burns have steadied the good ship Surrey without too many alarms and are content to collect ones with Steven Patterson metronomically landing fractionally short of a good length.

    Surrey 57-2 (13 overs) v Yorkshire

Jack Brooks continues to mix steady line and length with the odd short ball. He finds the edge as Rory Burns tries to drive but the ball runs along the ground to slip. A wide outside off stump gives Surrey an extra delivery - it's a full toss, but Burns mis-times it straight back to the bowler.

  8. Postpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 55-2 (12 overs)

The Surrey 50 comes up as Steven Davies punches the ball away for four runs. Rory Burns calls for a quick single to mid-off later in the over and is sufficiently unnerved to dive for the crease, but the throw misses the stumps in any event.

  9. Brooks changes endspublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 48-2 v Yorkshire (11 overs)

I spoke too soon. Jack Brooks returns after switching ends as the second powerplay is taken. After losing two wickets so early, I wonder what Surrey would now regard as a good score?

Brooks drops short and Rory Burns pulls it away to deep mid-wicket for two. The bowler does not learn the lesson and a similar delivery gets what it deserves and is put away for four.

  10. Postpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 38-2 (10 overs) v Yorkshire

Jack Brooks is withdrawn from the attack after taking 1-14 from his first four overs. Steven Patterson takes up the attack. He is one of those bowlers who you underestimate at your peril. Patterson finds a consistent line straight from the get-go and three singles is all Surrey can manage.

    Surrey 35-2 (9 overs)

That's more like it by Surrey. Tim Bresnan goes too wide and Steven Davies spanks it away through cover for his fourth boundary. The rest of the over, though, does not permit any liberties.

  12. Brooks right on the moneypublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 31-2 (8 overs) v Yorkshire

Jack Brooks digs one in at Rory Burns, who doesn't deal with it well and is lucky as the ball lobs into the off-side but falls short of the field. The 'headband warrior' is fancying another wicket after removing Dominic Sibley in his opening over. That's a maiden.

  13. Postpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 31-2 (7 overs) v Yorkshire

Circumspection is the word of the moment for Surrey at Headingley. Tim Bresnan may not quite have the same pace he once possessed, but he is accurate and only four come from the over.

    Surrey 27-2 (6 overs) v Yorkshire

With two left-handers at the crease, Jack Brooks tries to induce an error outside off stump, and beats Rory Burns with the final ball. Just two singles from the over.

  16. Postpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 25-2 (5 overs) v Yorkshire

Rory Burns is averaging over 50 in the One-Day Cup this season, with a top score of 70 not out, and Surrey need a big innings from him today. He gets under way with two and then a single off Tim Bresnan, who concedes four to Steven Davies before beating him twice outside off stump with angled deliveries.

  17. Davies finds the boundarypublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 18-2 (4 overs) v Yorkshire

Steven Davies is slightly fortunate as an aerial square cut flies away for four, but picks up another boundary with a controlled punch through the off-side. A misfield in the circle by Matthew Waite allows Surrey two more and that over should make them feel a little better after the double setback.

    Surrey 8-2 (3 overs) v Yorkshire

The look on Kumar Sangakkara's face after Azeem Rafiq took that catch was one of utter disgust, but disgust with himself. Rory Burns is the new batsman.

WICKET (Sangakkara c Rafiq b Bresnan 4)published at 11:11 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 8-2 (2.4 overs) v Yorkshire

When you've lost an early wicket, it must be very reassuring to have Kumar Sangakkara as your number three. The thoroughbred Sri Lankan punches a ball from Tim Bresnan away square for the game's first boundary, but then pays the price for overconfidence as he drills a catch to cover. What a huge blow that is for Surrey.

  20. wicket

WICKET Sibley (lbw Brooks 0)published at 11:07 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Surrey 3-1 (2 overs) v Yorkshire

Jack Brooks hits Dominic Sibley 'amidships' in his opening over. That'll wake the Surrey opener up - or will it? He goes across his stumps to the final delivery, misses the ball and Yorkshire have the breakthrough.
