  3. Stumps at Lord'spublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 & 81-2 v Yorkshire 390

That's the end of a fascinating third day at HQ. Handshakes all round for Tim Bresnan following his unbeaten 142 which put Yorkshire in the driving seat.

But Nick Gubbins and Dawid Malan's unbroken stand of 79 means there is still plenty of work for Yorkshire to do on the final day. Middlesex trail by 39.

A draw will hand Somerset the title, while a win for either Yorkshire or Middlesex will see them crowned champions.

  4. CLOSE!published at 18:29 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 & 81-2 v Yorkshire 390

Oh almost! He gets one to turn, finds the edge of Nick Gubbins and it flies past slip.

    The batsmen run three.

  5. Final over of the daypublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 & 78-2 v Yorkshire 390

Adam Lyth comes into the attack to bowl the last over of day three at Lord's.

Can he provide the magic with the ball that's been lacking for the last 30 overs?

  6. 'One of the best knocks I've seen'published at 18:25 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

Yorkshire coach on Tim Bresnan's 142 not out

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie told BBC Radio Leeds: "He did wonderfully well. It's one of the best knocks I've seen by a Yorkshire player during my time here. Take into account the situation and what was at stake - it was an incredibly disciplined knock.

"People questioned the decision to bat him at five, but the reality is he's been one of our most consistent batsmen of the summer. It allowed us to play a fifth seamer and we could attack because we knew we needed to take 20 wickets to win here.

"We know Somerset have won and we've got work to do, and both sides here at Lord's know they've got to win if they want to win the title. It's going to be a fascinating and massively entertaining final day."

  7. Sidebottom seethingpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 & 76-2 v Yorkshire 390

Shot! Dawid Malan cuts Ryan Sidebottom through point for four. Absolutely creamed.

Sidebottom follows it up with another lbw shout but it's sliding down leg.

He looks furious. He's a winner and Middlesex have frustrated Yorkshire in the last hour.

  8. Not outpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 & 65-2 v Yorkshire 390

Ryan Sidebottom roars at umpire Rob Bailey, pleading with him to give Nick Gubbins out lbw.

But it's very high and Gubbins got an inside edge. Not out.

  9. Stumps elsewherepublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

We've now only got play at Lord's with time called in the remaining three Division Two matches.

All of the match reports will be on the BBC Cricket website shortly.

  10. Close of play at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Hampshire 411 & 175-7 v Durham 361

It's stumps on the south coast with Hampshire leading Durham by 226 heading into the final day.

Lewis McManus finishes unbeaten on 41.

With Lancashire in trouble at Edgbaston they'll realistically need to beat Durham to stay in Division One.

  11. Playing for the close?published at 18:06 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 & 57-2 v Yorkshire 390

Maybe that six from Nick Gubbins was a bit of a false dawn.

Just four runs have come off the next 22 deliveries.

How many bottles of scrumpy have been sunk so far Somerset fans?

  12. Chris Rogers retirespublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

It's now been confirmed that the Australian is indeed retiring from cricket.

And what a way for him to go out! Two hundreds in his final match and every chance of a first County Championship title for Somerset.

  13. 6 runs

Six for Nick Gubbinspublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 & 53-2 v Yorkshire 390

Is this a bit of intent from Middlesex now? Nick Gubbins rocks back and pulls Jack Brooks behind square for six and brings up the 50 partnership with Dawid Malan in the process.

    Middlesex trail by 67.

  14. wicket

WICKET Dawson (c Pringle b Borthwick) 39published at 17:55 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Hampshire 411 & 165-7 v Durham 361

Liam Dawson is out just before stumps at the Ageas Bowl as he top edges Scott Borthwick to Ryan Pringle at mid-off.

Hampshire's lead is still a healthy 215 but they'll want it up towards 300.

Meanwhile it's stumps at Edgbaston with Lancashire 28-3, chasing a target of 347.

There were plenty of cheery faces in the West Country earlier as Somerset moved to the top of the Division One table.

They'll be happy Middlesex are digging in at Lord's too. A draw would be enough for Somerset to take the trophy for the first time ever.

  16. Gubbins and Malan dig inpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 & 46-2 v Yorkshire 390

It's hard to figure out what Middlesex's plan is here. They need to beat Yorkshire to win the title, but are currently scoring at less than two an over.

It's tough going for Nick Gubbins and Dawid Malan but surely they have to have a go in the evening sunshine?

  18. Lancashire three downpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Warwickshire 219 & 279-7 dec v Lancashire 152 & 26-3

Lancashire's Division One fate is going to be in the hands of Hampshire at this rate.

Karl Brown is the third man to go, caught behind off Chris Wright for four.

Hampshire's lead is now above 200 with Liam Dawson and Lewis McManus sharing a half-century stand at the Ageas Bowl.

    Hants are 158-6.

  19. Chris Rogers not returning to Somersetpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 22 September 2016
    Breaking

Some breaking news from Taunton - the club has just Tweeted to say their 39-year-old captain will not be returning next season.

I'm just waiting for some clarification to see if he's retiring from all cricket...

Dafydd Miles: How many Somerset fans will be going to Lords to support the weather? I'll be doing a rain dance

Stuart Mitchell: How can anyone call cricket dull? This is brilliant and not even watching it. Middlesex do need to up their scoring rate though.

Andy Bentley: Middlesex look to have settled for 2nd place. Disappointing lack of ambition. Come on Yorks, show em how it's done!
