"The maths is simple for Yorkshire this morning at Lord's.

"Assuming that Somerset go on to beat Nottinghamshire, the reigning Division One champions would need 115 runs in 41 overs to pick up two more batting bonus points and keep their chances of winning this year's title alive.

"Their main hopes rest on in-form all-rounder Tim Bresnan who, having been promoted to bat at five for the first time in his career, is unbeaten on a first-class season-best 72.

"We have another fascinating day ahead in London."

  3. The relegation fightpublished at 10:24 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

Away from Lord's and Taunton, plenty of eyes will be on Edgbaston and the Ageas Bowl today.

If Hampshire, who are in a strong position against Durham, win, the loser of the Warwickshire and Lancashire match will go down.

However, the news from the south coast doesn't sound too encouraging - it's raining at the moment and there will be a delayed start.

I'll have regular updates from both grounds.

County Championship finale - day three

With most of the bonus points sorted out now, at least we know what needs to happen for all three sides in the title hunt.

If Somerset win, which they are likely to do against Notts, they will be champions if it's a draw between Middlesex and Yorkshire at Lord's.

The trophy is also heading to the West Country if Yorkshire beat Middlesex but score less than 350 in their first innings.

If Yorkshire score more than 350 inside 110 overs and then beat Middlesex - Yorkshire win their third straight title.

If Middlesex win full stop, they are champions.

If it rains in Taunton, then I'm going back to bed.

    Good morning.

As we enter the third day of this County Championship title and relegation battle, I would have hoped to give you some indication of where the land lies.

But I can't. Everything is still up in the air. After a magnificent day for Somerset yesterday, perhaps they're slight favourites to pick up their first Championship trophy, but that goes out the window if Middlesex beat Yorkshire.

As for relegation, Hampshire, Warwickshire and Lancashire are still in danger.

I'll have all the action for you as it unfolds throughout today. Welcome to day three.
