Joseph Stack: Surely if Som'set fail to beat Notts, and Yorks beat m'sex, they win the title? No need for 350 inside 110 arbitrary target?

That's right Joseph, but we're assuming Somerset are going to beat Nottinghamshire. Anything can happen of course, but I wouldn't back anything other than a Somerset win at the moment!

  2. Not outpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 v Yorkshire 293-6

Huge lbw shout from Tim Murtagh as the ball strikes Tim Bresnan on the pads.

But it looks a little high and is given not out. Bresnan is a big lad and replays suggest it was going over the top.

Correct decision. Bres is two away from a magnificent hundred.

  3. Somerset charge continuespublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Somerset 365 & 203-3 v Notts 138

Chris Rogers and Peter Trego are smashing it to all parts at Taunton.

The pair have put on 30 in just four overs.

Somerset's advantage is up to 430 and skipper Rogers is just 28 away from his second century of the match.

  4. New ball takenpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 v Yorkshire 286-6

Middlesex need wickets desperately and so Tim Murtagh takes the new ball.

Yorkshire still need another 64 in 30 overs to keep their title hopes alive. The way they're batting this morning, they'll do it at a canter.

  5. wicket

WICKET Davies (st Read b Patel) 59published at 11:17 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Somerset 365 & 173-3 v Notts 138

Moments after Somerset's lead reaches 400, Ryan Davies goes.

The young wicketkeeper charges down the wicket to Samit Patel but can't get any bat on ball and Chris Read whips off the bails.

He's done his job though. Peter Trego joins Chris Rogers in the middle.

Azeem Rafiq is counting his lucky stars that Middlesex's fielders are not on form this morning.

The 25-year-old has somehow survived a brutal spell of bowling from Steven Finn and been dropped twice to help Yorkshire take the lead.

The Yorkshire fans in the ground are applauding every single run Rafiq and Tim Bresnan are scoring here.

It is tense in every single part of Lord's this morning.

  7. Another streaky fourpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 v Yorkshire 283-6

I think Middlesex captain James Franklin might burst in a minute. I'm seriously worried for his health.

Tim Bresnan plays another edgy shot wide of slip and down to the third-man boundary.

Bres is up to 92, Yorkshire's lead is growing, Middlesex's hopes of the title fading quickly.

  8. Yorkshire move into the leadpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 v Yorkshire 279-6

Okay, the short ball tactics aren't working now. Steven Finn bowls another bouncer at Azeem Rafiq which he pulls away to the fine leg boundary.

It was in the air but safe.

Rafiq is up to 46, Tim Bresnan 88. Those ciders will be tasting a little less sweet in Taunton right now.

If Yorkshire make 350 inside 110 overs and beat Middlesex - the White Rose are champions.

  9. 50 runs

50 for Ryan Daviespublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Somerset 365 & 160-2 v Notts 138

Teenage wicketkeeper Ryan Davies, with skipper Chris Rogers 20 years his senior watching on from the other end, reaches the third half-century of his career.

It took him just 53 balls to get there. Super knock from the 19-year-old and Somerset already have a declaration in their sights with the lead up to 387.

  10. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 v Yorkshire 266-6

This is getting silly now. James Franklin finds the outside edge of Azeem Rafiq, but Ollie Rayner shells the chance at slip.

It was another regulation chance. Anyone know how many catches have gone down from both sides? I haven't been totting them up.

    Somerset 365 & 152-2 v Notts 138

Somerset are not holding back here.

Captain Chris Rogers moves to his seventh Championship half-century of the summer with a couple of fours off spinner Matthew Carter.

The hosts have scored 49 runs in the first half hour. Talk about intent. The lead is up to 379.

  14. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 v Yorkshire 257-6

The short-ball plan almost works for Steven Finn. Azeem Rafiq tries to play another delivery at chin height over the slips, but can only sky it towards Nick Compton.

But Compton, running in from third man, shells the chance. It really should have been taken.

  15. wicket

WICKET Mellor (lbw b Bailey) 6published at 10:48 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Warwickshire 219 & 13-1 v Lancashire 152

Lancashire have an early wicket at Edgbaston. Warwickshire opener Alex Mellor is out lbw to Tom Bailey.

The lead stands at just 80.

  16. Rafiq in the firing linepublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Middlesex 270 v Yorkshire 253-6

And again! Steven Finn bowls a vicious bouncer at Azeem Rafiq which he guides uncomfortably over the slips.

Finn is livid. I'm not sure it's wise to make him any angrier.

At the start of Tim Murtagh's next over Tim Bresnan guides one down to third man, perhaps a little luckily, before clipping him to the square leg boundary.

The runs are flowing for Yorkshire this morning as they bring up their second batting bonus point.

  17. The plan at Taunton?published at 10:44 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Somerset 365 & 121-2 v Notts 138

With Somerset's lead already standing at 348, how long are they going to bat for this morning?

Skipper Chris Rogers (41 not out) is in the middle with Ryan Davies (30 not out) so I guess the Australian is in the best place to judge what's best.

There's still a huge amount of time left at Taunton.

    Middlesex 270 v Yorkshire 239-6

That is seriously quick from Steven Finn. The big England and Middlesex fast bowler digs one in at Azeem Rafiq, but the Yorkshire batsman takes his eyes off it and it flies off the top of the bat and over the slip corden to the boundary.

    Finn looks in the mood.
