I'm not sure we could have asked for a better finish to the County Championship season.

A hat-trick to win the title for Middlesex, three sides still in the race until the final few minutes and a relegation battle which went down to the last day.

This was the scene at Taunton following the Middlesex victory.

Chris Rogers won't bow out of the game with a trophy. You have to feel for the Somerset lads, it was a cruel way for the season to end.

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie added to Sky Sports:

"It was very dramatic and it's a testament to county cricket, a great advertisement. 

"The last 25 minutes of the season there was still three sides who could lift that trophy.

"It's been a great summer from that perspective and great entertainment for the people at home and the people watching."

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie told Sky Sports:

"We're obviously disappointed to lose a game of cricket and not have that opportunity to win the Championship.

"But it was really the only opportunity to chase a target so Gayley and James Franklin got together and set that up and it was just a case of we needed to go out there and score the runs.

"We needed someone to get a significant score - probably an 80 plus and some other contributions if we were going to be anywhere near."

Here's the winning moment again. Unbelievable drama at Lord's.

Middlesex skipper James Franklin added to Sky Sports:

"We've remained unbeaten and that was something we were very proud of going into this game.

"We just wanted to put a good show on. We were on the back foot for pretty much the whole game.

"To finally get over the line is testament to our group of players, our coaching staff, the belief - we just grew from last year and here we are holding the cup.

"It's for everyone here at Middlesex."

Middlesex captain James Franklin told Sky Sports:

"Coming into the gates this morning, this was as far away as I thought possible.

"I had a look at the cup after warm ups and thought there was a slim chance but to be holding it is unbelievable."

Steven Finn told Sky Sports: “I kept getting asked if I wanted one more over and with the situation of the game it was hard to turn them down. The hero is Toby – that six-for was incredible.

“It was intense. Other than the Test match when we won against Australia at Trent Bridge in 2013, that’s a tense a game as I’ve played in.

“Credit to Yorkshire, who set up the game and went for it all of the way through. It was a good advert for county cricket.”

Good to see Somerset still had some kind words for Middlesex. I'm sure there are a few tears in the West Country right now...

Toby Roland-Jones told Sky Sports: “The way the day went, it was a bit up and down. I think we set them a pretty good chase. At different stages they looked like they were going well. For it to finish like that is an unbelievable feeling.

“There’s been so much hard work over the past five years. We’ve been on an upward curve and to finish it off like this and finally manage to get there – I’m sure we’ll enjoy it tonight.”

You have to spare a thought for those supporters in Taunton. 

I'm not sure anyone expected it to end like this.

THEY'VE DONE IT! Toby Roland-Jones wins Middlesex the County Championship with a hat-trick.

The paceman bowls Ryan Sidebottom round his legs and Lord's erupts. Unbelievable drama.

Hearts in Leeds and Taunton are broken, but you can't argue with the result. Middlesex haven't lost a County Championship match this season.

Durham have beaten Hampshire by six wicket at the Ageas Bowl sending Hampshire into Division Two. 

It means Lancashire survive. There will be more on this on the BBC Cricket website shortly.

12 runs come off the over! Andy Hodd and Azeem Rafiq pick up three twos and a couple of singles, before wicketkeeper Hodd nicks Steven Finn down to the third-man boundary.

Great over for Yorkshire.

The problem for Yorkshire is possibly the batting left. Steven Patterson, Jack Brooks and Ryan Sidebottom are the batsmen to come.

They need to keep swinging. Tense? Sweaty palms? You bet ya.
