  1. Eng 257-6 (Buttler 23, Woakes 8)published at 46 overs

This is a fascinating battle between bat and ball. So often in recent ODI cricket the former wins with ease but this pitch is forcing batsmen to earn their runs. Shafiul provides a good end to his over, keeping England to singles.

  2. Eng 255-6published at 45.3 overs

This has been a good comeback from Bangladesh. A single from Buttler brings up England's 250. That's a shot and half from Woakes though. Down on one knee, opens the face of the bat and driven up and over the man at cover. A much-needed boundary for England.

Made my debut for Derbyshire under 17s after trialling for several years.

First game was away in Whitehaven, Cumbria. After an eight hour car journey due to traffic the day before, sat in the freezing cold for the first day watching us bat (I was designated number 12).

When I finally got the nod to bowl on the second day, the umpires hauled us off for rain after I had marked my run up out. The game was called off an hour later.

  4. Eng 249-6published at 45 overs

There is still a chance but England's chances of a 300 total are diminishing. To be fair, it is not a pitch that screams huge score.

  5. Eng 247-6published at 44.3 overs

Shakib is giving nothing away as Chris Woakes strides to the crease. A bit of fancy footwork from Buttler lets England nab a single. Then Woakes steps to one side and drives through long-off. Just a single, though.

Andy Wilson: What about brilliant late call ups? Got called up the morning of a league game and ended up getting my first ever Michelle!

Doomin: Age 17, Selected just once for Ulster. Rained all 90 miles to Dublin, sat in car an hour, rained all way back. Home for lunch.

    Moeen c Tamim b Mortaza 6 (Eng 245-6)

Having experimented with a short ball earlier in the over, Mortaza goes for it again and is rewarded as Moeen fails to connect properly with his pull and sends the ball straight to Tamim Iqbal at fine leg.

  8. Eng 243-5published at 43.3 overs

Right, Buttler, what have you got? He's out of his crease to the first ball from Mortaza, whipping it off his pads. It's well fielded at square leg and the return his the stumps, but Buttler is well in and the pair steal another single. Moeen threads another one through the midwicket to keep the score ticking over.

This is a perfect situation for Buttler and Moeen to come to the crease. Although a tricky pitch to get in on, these batters will be capable of getting the score nearer the 300 mark.

  10. Eng 238-5published at 43 overs

Moeen is not messing around. He calls for two as soon as Buttler stabs the ball on the ground into the leg side and his speed ensures he gets two. They repeat the trick next ball but are denied a third time as Bangladesh become wise to them.

  11. Eng 233-5published at 42.3 overs

Shakib, who has taken 100 wickets at this stadium, is back into the attack. Buttler throws in two big swings from outside off but he can only find the fielder at the edge of the circle. He taps his foot in frustration.

  12. Eng 233-5published at 42 overs

Moeen Ali joins Jos Buttler. His role is surely to give his big-hitting skipper as much of the strike as possible. He gets off the mark with a little flick off his legs for two.

    Stokes c Sabbir b Mortaza 101 (Eng 230-5)

Stokes looks so, so tired. He's huffing and puffing like the big bad wolf. Still managing to make the quick singles, though. He has a huge swing, the ball goes high into the air, and safely into Sabbir's hands on the edge of the boundary. Stokes trudges off, bringing an impressive innings to an end.

Excellent century from Stokes. He came in at a difficult time with his side 63-3 and the spinners on. He has both played smart and aggressive cricket and has put anything in his arc away. He has a bit of luck but no doubt will be proud of his first ODI century.

  15. Eng 228-4published at 41 overs

Watch out, Buttler is into the game. He scores his first boundary with a swivelling shot to a Shafiul short ball. It is fireworks time.

    Eng 222-4

What an innings. A first ODI hundred for Ben Stokes who pushes to leg for a single. He has guided England from potential disaster to a competitive total. Next target? A match-winning score.

  17. Eng 221-4published at 40.3 overs

Shafiul has bowled well here. Buttler scampers through a single to get Stokes back on strike. Stokes hammers the ball through to point , shouts "come on" to Buttler, but the diving fielder puts paid to that. Still on 99...

Playing illicitly for a league team under an assumed name…

Failed to trouble the scorers and then dropped two catches.

Finally, a friend’s wife – who happened to be walking her dog around the boundary – called out "Hello Pete".

Very embarrassing when you’re playing under the name of Ronald…

  19. Eng 220-4published at 40 overs

Buttler gets off the mark with a high pull shot. He turns his head away and still manages to middle it. That's just showing off, frankly. Meanwhile Stokes is on to 99. A single gives him the strike for the final ball of the over. It's straight, slow and Stokes can only pat it back to Mortaza.

The annual Oz v Poms match in Brisbane's North Lakes suburb has regularly seen each side accused of drafting A Grade players, doctoring wickets and other shenanigans. What remained constant however was the essentially liquid picnic beyond the boundary rope. My nephew, a late call up to the Oz side, missed the potential winning catch down at third man due to his dominant hand holding a beer to his lips whilst flirting with one of the locals. We English celebrated as if we'd regained the urn.
