Pakistan really attacked England's spinners last summer, but it was good to see them holding their own against the Bangladesh batsmen today. Now it's about driving it home and taking the final five wickets.

When Moeen pushed the ball through with plenty of revs, he looked a lot more dangerous. He could have given it a bit more air too and got the batsman coming forward. Adil Rashid bowled a mixed bag, in my opinion.

England spinner Gareth Batty, speaking on Sky Sports: "It was nerve wracking. After we'd seen Mo being successful I tried to bowl more direct with less air and loop and a bit quicker. It was trying to bring them forward. Hopefully that is why we got the wicket.

"They are adept at playing spin in this environment. They had a spell when they played beautifully and manipulated us. They make you bowl fuller by going back to your better length balls. That is something we need to address.

"It is a group effort. Experience goes so far. The man with the ball in hand needs to take the lead. I was learning from Mo."

The England seamers can still come into play in this game. They have a few more tricks up their sleeve than the Bangladesh quicks. You saw how Ben Stokes was able to bowl quick at the end of the day to Mushfiqur.

I think Bangladesh are behind in the game if they concede a first innings lead. I have to give them credit though, I thought they might fold after Moeen took those two wickets before lunch but they batted well - particularly Tamim.

All the signs are that this pitch is deteriorating and it's making for a fascinating contest.

England are going to have to make that second new ball talk tomorrow. They can do that - Moeen impressed when the ball was a bit harder and was going through a bit quicker.

Bangladesh made England work hard, and the tourists took all of their wickets in clusters really.

So, Bangladesh trail England by 72 runs with five wickets remaining. The game is firmly in the balance. Despite all of the spin, it was a little burst of well-bowled seam that has opened up the door for England again.

This game is perfectly poised. With the new ball due in six overs, I would hope they can still eek out a lead. Considering the fact England get to bowl last on this pitch, they will probably be feeling quiet confident.

Ben Stokes got it right against Mushfiqur but his line has drifted in the last over or so since.

Shafiul survives the last over. When he is not planting his feet and dnagling his bat nervously, he is backing away or getting hit on the helmet. Job done by him, though. That is the end of play.

  14. Ban 221-5published at 73 overs

For the first time in the final session, Bangladesh are firmly on the back foot, in survival mode. Broad almost gets one through Shakib, who inside edges into his own pads. Bangladesh have now gone 21 balls without scoring. Shafiul will face the last over from Stokes.

  15. Ban 221-5published at 72 overs

Bangladesh send in a nightwatchman in Shafiul, who it would be fair to say does not look comfortable against Stokes. His feet don't move as he prods nervously at the seamer.

Well done Ben. He dug deep for that wicket. And after all that spin we finally have a wicket to seam.

That's brilliant from Stokes, especially at the end of a day like this. He's kept his line tight and it was a feint tickle. England desperately needed it and Bangladesh are now sending out a nightwatchman. This changes things.

Bairstow looks like a very relieved man! It's superb, splendid bowling by Stokes at the end of a very hot day.

Stokes has his man! England strike late again! There was a nick and the ball did carry, although Bairstow did need a couple of attempts to claim the catch. That changes things. A very important partnership is broken.

England are convinced they have their man. Stokes believes he has Mushfiqur caught behind. The soft signal is out, it just all depends on if the ball carries...

England get to bowl last on this pitch and we don't expect it to get easier - there's chunks coming out of the pitch at times - but when do England get worried?

Ebony Rainford-Brent replies: "England will be comfortable with Bangladesh reaching 320, but not much more."
