Moeen looks to get Mushfiqur driving, tossing the ball up just short of a length. The Bangladesh man is balancing risk with reward and playing his shots. It is serving him well.

I'm just a touch disappointed with the way Batty has bowled because he has not got much turn out of the surface.
Shakib continues the positive slant to his innings by dancing down the track and hammering Batty back over his head for four. Tamim's dismissal has not halted the home side's positive approach post-tea.

The moment he came into bat Mushfiqur looked very positive. He is not holding himself back.
Trail by 109 runs
The drinks break gives England the chance to have a little conference. The result is the return of Moeen. He gets sharp turn and brings up some clouds of dust off the surface but also concedes a boundary courtesy of a reverse paddle sweep from Mushfiqur.
The parrot has got his own seat now. That has got to be a concession?

There is a bit more of a spring in Batty's step. England will be grateful he is starting to exert a bit more control, which has always been a concern with Moeen and Rashid. I expect him to continue, whether Joe Root will I'm not so sure. I think Bangladesh have just got the edge but another wicket could change that.

One Bangladesh fan has brought his parrot with him to the game, like you do. I didn't see him at any of the one-dayers. The bird must be a bit of a cricket purist. Just the one run off Batty's latest.
Root is not having the desired effect here. Shakib has handled him well since arriving at the crease. They are not scoring heavily off him but he is not beating the bat. Maybe Moeen would be a good option now?

They have both come out positively. They have to try and get initiative, get established against the spinners and then you can stay there for a long time.

Shakib is a bit keen. He manages to force an overthrow with one shot to mid-off off Batty but is sent back after ill-advisedly charging down the track in search of a quick single. Batty helps him out with a full wide ball that he dispatches through cover for four.

Peter Johnson: RE: 10:38 HLC1221 - I think Batty heard you. Nice work!
Chops: good much needed reverse commentators curse from @Hlc1221, external. Well played.
HLC1221: The old reverse commentators curse strikes again. Everyone can thank me later when Batty gets a 5-for.

Joe Root comes into the attack. He tosses it up there but is picked off once by Mushfiqur, who drives through the vacant mid-off area for four.
Suddenly, there is panic in the Bangladesh ranks. New man Shakib has to dive to make his ground but he is just home before Bairstow whips off the bails.

It might have been a slightly quicker ball from Batty, Tamim wasn't in a great position and it was a good catch from Bairstow standing up.

Batty has got his wicket, he has gone bright red and is celebrating. He is looking at his feisty best.
Tamim c Bairstow b Batty 78 (Ban 163-4)
Big moment! Tamim has looked so assured but such is the nature of this wicket you are never assured of your status at the crease. He goes back to a ball from Batty and gets an edge to Bairstow. Up goes the umpire's finger. Tamim glances up and sees it is umpire Dharmasena, who must have been sweating for a moment in anticipation of a review that doesn't come. Gareth is going, well... batty.

A run-rate of three an over, on this pitch where the ball is turning, is equivalent to about four-and-a-half on a sunny day at Lord's. England will feel runs are coming too quickly.

Thomas Measures: Hindsight is a wonderful thing but, I really think we could have done with another spinner. The problem is who would be dropped?
The Monitor: We could do with one Derek Underwood in this situation.
HLC1221: Batty still a very bizarre pick over Leach or Rayner. Rashid and Ali clearly better spinners.
