  1. wicket

    Broad c Mushfiqur b Mehedi 13 (Eng 293)

Of course this innings ends with an overturned review. Broad got the tiniest, thinnest of edges on the ball prompting the smallest of hills to register on Ultraedge. Innings over.

We are into double figures for reviews. Broad is tentative with his forward defensive and the home side think he has edged it to the keeper. Over to you, Ultraedge.

Yesterday we saw just a bit of variable bounce but so far the ones we have seen have been going over the top of the stumps.

  4. Eng 292-9published at 105 overs

Going back is risky business on here. Stuart Broad has to quickly stab his bat down to fend off a Taijul ball that skips off the surface. Had he missed, I suspect the video umpire would have been pressing play and pause again.

Si Lomas: Hope all these overturned decisions off Dharmasena don't make him reluctant to put his finger up when we're bowling!

Craig Bickerton: What are the most amount of overturned decisions in an innings since DRS was brought in? this must be some sort of record.

  7. Eng 292-9published at 104 overs

More appeals, more calls to make. Batty is caught on the pad twice in succession by Mehedi but umpire Gaffaney isn't interested. He likes to keep things interesting, though, by moving his hand up... to put in his earpiece. Probably not appreciated by the batsmen, that.

  8. Eng 291-9published at 103 overs

Nine reviews now in this innings. I just hope the umpire's don't get reluctant when England have the ball in their hand.

When you saw the replay that looked a lot closer. I think this is a very good total and England have a good spin attack too.

  10. Not outpublished at 102. overs

Poor Dharmasena. This spin is destroying his radar. The ball was turning so sharly it was missing leg stump. Broad survives and the umpire has to rule out his initial call.

  11. Umpire reviewpublished at 102.1 overs

    Eng 290-9

Taijul traps the tentative Broad on the pad and up goes the finger. England have reviews in the bank so why wouldn't you. Plus, reviews are kind of this Test's thing. Umpire Dharmasena will be desperate for this to be given out. He's had a few too many overturns for comfort.

  12. Eng 290-9published at 102 overs

    Broad 11, Batty 0

As an 18-year-old Mehedi probably bounced out of bed this morning without a care in the world. If I'd bowled 30-odd overs yesterday I'd have been like the Tin Man after 20 years out in the rain. The Bangladesh spinner twirls down another maiden as Batty digs in.

Paul Mackereth: No doubt this pitch is a turner but I worry Moeen or Bairstow needed to go on for a big score once they'd got in & the ball softened

Andrew H: as the old adage goes, 'you never know how good a score is until both teams have batted'. Been a decent recovery from England

Tom Potter: Ye of little faith! England don't have a tail, Gareth Batty has a FC century

  14. Eng 289-9published at 101 overs

Welcome back to Test cricket Gareth Batty. This isn't the easiest way to ease yourself back in. But he is capable - as a couple of first-class hundreds attest. He pats back three balls from Taiful, who has taken both wickets this morning.

With most of the balls from Taijul being fuller I think he just got done a little bit, he wasn't expecting it short but well done to the fielder for clinging on to it.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 100.3 overs

    Rashid c Sabbir b Taijul 26 (Eng 289-9)

You are never in on this track. Especially not Rashid, because he's out. After having clubbed a full ball from Taijul towards cow for four, the bowler gets his revenge as Rashid rocks back and steers a catch to the diving Sabbir at short cover.

  17. Eng 285-8published at 100 overs

100 overs bowled by Bangladesh. Only 17 of them have been seam. Mehedi continues to probe away at Broad, pinning him to the striker's end for a maiden.

One thing why maybe Taijul hasn't been as successful as Mehedi is Mehedi has been bowling around 55mph but Taijul is around the 50 mark, maybe he isn't quite getting the revs on it.

  19. Eng 285-8published at 99 overs

    Broad 10, Rashid 18

The TMS crew are discussing their early-morning gym routines. No chance of me going for a work-out this morning, unless you count scampering to the car from the front door to get out of the rain. Taijul drops short and Rashid rocks back and punches him through mid-wicket for four.
