Imrul b Moeen 21 (Ban 29-0)
Yes, Moeen! There is the breakthrough! The Worcestershire man strikes in his first over, tossing up a superb ball that lands and turns away from the tentative Imrul, clipping the very top of off stump. The perfect delivery.

There is a bit in it for everybody, Rashid getting the turn but Kayes sweeping cleanly. You just feel it might be a nice battle.

Cook turns to leggie Adil Rashid in search of the breakthrough. Imrul attacks, sweeping him away powerfully for four. Don't think Ballance at short leg appreciated that.
The first big appeal from England is turned down by umpire Dharmasena. He is right as well. Imrul was tied up but the ball was turning way past leg stump.
Couple of half chances. Imrul edges a full, turning ball from Batty but his soft hands ensures the ball doesn't carry straight to slip. The same batsman then drives aerially just a yard or two past the bowler. England would love a wicket before lunch.

The last time England played Bangladesh was 2010. Since then arguably their batting line-up is pretty robust, you've got players who have developed over that period. Speaking to locals, they seem to think they are going to get 500.
It has been very much Bangladesh's morning. They cleaned England up quickly and have looked relatively untroubled so far in their reply. Woakes continues to explore a short length but he is steered around for a couple of singles.

Re: Vic Marks' comments at 7.01 about England not knowing their top four in the batting line-up. To be fair, they do know two of them: Cook & Root, so it's not as bad as all that...

Tamim 5, Imrul 13
Gary Ballance is under the lid and in at silly point as England look to amp up the pressure on Imrul. There is a little break in play as the Bangladeshi opener fishes something out of his eye, which he achieves by flinging water at his own face. He returns to the crease with a flashing drive for four through extra cover.

One young fan holds aloft a homemade sign declaring "Boom boom Tamim". Not right now he's not. He and Imrul have made a very conservative start to this innings. All about reaching lunch intact. Woakes concedes his first run with a very short ball that flies way over Imrul's head and is called wide. Good pace, bad direction.

Opening with Batty shows England can be flexible. In the past they would have used two seamers and be sticking to the plan but they have been reactive to the conditions here.

Good from Batty. Full, testing, tossing out the line to see what bites. Imrul gets in a bit of bother as he goes back to one that skips on to him and ties him up. England not giving much away.

The Bangladesh tail certainly doesn't start until nine because Mehedi is down at eight and he is a proper all-rounder.
Eng 293
Just the three-over spell for Stuart Broad as Chris Woakes gets his first chance with the ball. Not surprising to see the seamer vary his pace and chuck in a couple of attempted off-cutters. If you can't beat em, join em. Tamim is pretty comfortable, though.

Adam: This Test series brings a bright side to being up at 5am with the baby. “It’s ok love, I’ll get up with him you stay in bed”.
Tamim 4, Imrul 8
Too short from Batty. He is finding turn but it counts for nothing unless he pops it up a yard or two further to get Imrul and Tamim on the front foot. Corridor of uncertainty.
Moeen Ali played the DRS well yesterday. However, down in Australia, they've been having a bit of fun with it all...
