  2. Ban 69-2published at 26 overs

    England 293

I'm not going to get the dropped catch graphic out here because Rashid flung himself to his left at backward point as Tamim cut at Moeen but could not quite get there. A rueful rub of the back from Rashid and he is consoled by his colleagues.

If you look at the way Tamim and Mahmudullah have batted to the spinners I don't think it is a bad idea to get Stokes on and see what they can do against seam. He needs to mix it up, with slower balls and cutters. It is not a bad move.

  4. Ban 66-2published at 25 overs

    Tamim 28, Mahmudullah 14

It is Stokes, sweat glistening off his pink forehead, and he is flanked by Cook and Broad offering him instructions before he begins his spell. He has just the one slip but he causes Mahmudullah some concern with an excellent line outside off-stump. A fortuitous thick edge gives the batsmen a boundary from the final ball of the over, not doing much for the temperament of the bowler, particularly in this heat.

  5. Australia start Test series day after T20published at 08:13 British Summer Time 21 October 2016

Elsewhere in the world of cricket, it's been announced that Australia will begin next February's Test series in India only one day after completing a home Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka.

The final T20 game takes place in Adelaide on 22 February 2017, with the first of four Tests in India starting in Bangalore on 23 February.

Steve Smith, David Warner and Mitchell Starc - all of whom are in the Test squad - will miss the three T20s.

    More on that story here.

Ben, Lanzarote: They picked Batty for his control, but Moeen has the better economy rate so far. Go Mo!

  7. Ban 62-2published at 24 overs

    England 293

Ben Stokes is limbering up in the gully. Is that a hint to the captain? Or is he obeying orders? Moeen is on the money, there is no drastic turn on this occasion and Tamim plays out a maiden.

I think they will take Rashid off and go back to Batty at this end. Cook has options available so if you bowl six overs and nothing happens he can shuffle it around.

  9. Ban 62-2published at 23 overs

    Rashid 0-23 off 6

Tamim, who has a Test best of 206 against Pakistan last year, scythes another boundary, the third of his innings, and Rashid is looking a little ineffective. Who is going to step up to the plate next for England?

  10. Ban 57-2published at 22 overs

    England 293

Moeen concedes his first boundary, a bit of a half-tracker, and stylishly punched off the back foot by Tamim.

This is an important little spell from Rashid. He has bowled pretty well but it would be nice for him to get a wicket and get on a roll. I'm sure he would prefer to bowl to the right-handers. If you are batting, it is vital you take full advantage of any loose bowling.

  12. Ban 50-2published at 21 overs

    Rashid 0-18 off 5

Another full toss from Rashid and it's put away to the mid-wicket boundary by Mahmudullah. Rashid is like a high-maintenance glamorous partner, fraught with problems but surely worth the risks? Speaking hypothetically, of course.

  13. Ban 44-2published at 20 overs

    Moeen 2-7 off 4

There's the ball. There's the puff of dust. But there is not the edge. It pitches on middle and spins above and beyond Tamim's lunge. No luck for Moeen.

Jen: In England's last 10 matches with the bat, Moeen averages more than 60 whereas Stokes averages just 27.5.

Tamim picks up his first boundary from his 47th ball, bit of a gift really, a full toss from Rashid that is emphatically thumped through the covers.

Moeen is bowling pretty quick. He is up at Monty Panesar pace. No bad thing when the ball is turning like this.

  17. Ban 37-2published at 18 overs

    Tamim 12, Mahmudullah 3

Moeen sends down one that rears up like a delivery from Curtly Ambrose. There is a big puff of dust as the ball pitches and it spits up, spins away from the left-handed Tamim and is taken at shoulder height by Bairstow. Tamim restores his equanimity and collects three with an inside edge to fine-leg.

  19. Ban 33-2published at 17 overs

    England 293

In addition to the three men close to the bat, Rashid has three fielders on the boundary for those occasional bad ones but there are none in this over, respectfully played out by Tamim after an opening single.

Some spinners don't like turning pitches because people think you'll get six wickets without blinking. Then there are others like Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar, who came through at Northants where the ball spun, who didn't mind it.
