  1. Ban 154-1published at 36 overs

    Tamim 89, Mominul 59

What a delightful piece of timing that is from Tamim, just a turn of the wrists to Finn's perfectly respectable delivery on middle stump and it races away through mid-wicket for his 10th boundary. A speculative appeal as Mominul reaches for a very wide one but there is no edge and the compact left-hander then slices another four to record the 150 partnership in 201 balls.

Rashid isn't bowling too badly, he's getting the ball to turn and there was no rubbish in that over. He's bowled to one or two eccentric fields - last over, on the off side there was a first slip, a deep mid-off and a man on the backward point boundary. You wouldn't really bowl outside off stump with that field.

  3. Ban 145-1published at 35 overs

    Tamim 84, Mominul 55

Tamim guides Rashid delicately behind square on the off side for three. There is momentary excitement as Mominul pops one up close to short-leg but no genuine chance of a wicket. Again.

I think England are being conservative in their bowling choice. They're bowling Finn and Rashid, who aren't renowned for bowling "dry", thinking Bangladesh won't go after them, and keeping Stokes back. Stokes' overs have been like gold dust.

  5. Ban 141-1published at 34 overs

    Partnership 140

A solitary England supporter, looking a little sheepish, is besieged by Bangladesh supporters. He is presented with a giant stuffed tiger - a toy one, not a taxidermied offering, and proceeds to wave it a little awkwardly. Tamim into the 80s with a push through mid-wicket off Finn for two more.

Thomas Measures: Never understand why we insist our spinners need to be able to bat. Doesn't stop us picking Anderson and he's done OK.

Mark Mitchener writes: "If you've not heard the news from Australia today,, external there's a storm brewing over Jackson Bird's omission from the Test squad. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, selector Rod Marsh 'denied fast bowlers who bat at No.11 were now being chosen on the strength of their batting – but seconds later conceded it was that aspect of Bird's game that had cost him a spot'.'"

  7. Ban 138-1published at 33 overs

    Rashid 0-25 off 5

Some pronounced spin for Rashid but as so often he is unable to pitch it in the right place to cause maximum discomfort for the batsmen. With a maiden in sight, the final ball of the over is short on the leg-stump and clipped for a single, 17 overs of spin without a maiden now.

I keep watching that pull shot from Tamim - we're about 90 yards from the action - and thinking it could be a chance for deep square leg, only for the ball to go about 40 yards to his right.

  9. Ban 137-1published at 32 overs

    Tamim 79, Mominul 52

Tamim's ninth boundary, that pirouette pull bringing him four more off Finn. The only England bowler not to be hit to the boundary so far is Stokes.

I think it's a mistake not having Moeen on after lunch. He needs a couple of overs when he doesn't go for many runs, and you'd think they might not go for him immediately lunch. And if they wanted to go after him straight after lunch, they're probably not in the best position to do so.

Dropped catch - Tamim on 72published at 31 overs

    Ban 132-1

Tamim gets an edge to a looping Rashid delivery but it cannot be taken low by Bairstow up to the stumps. A technical chance but the graphic has to be brought out. Mominul reaches his 10th Test fifty from 71 balls with a thumping on-drive to the boundary. Ten from the over.

Glen Young: Kohli must be rubbing his hands watching this.

  13. Ban 122-1published at 30 overs

    Finn 0-13 off 5

Finn, who has mercifully extricated that dubious 1970s-style moustache he sported as a drinks waiter in the last Test, gets some steep bounce upwards of 87mph to surprise Tamim, but the well-set left-hander keeps the ball safely down and then prevents a maiden with a flamingo flick off his hip for a single.

  15. Ban 121-1published at 29 overs

    Tamim 69, Mominul 46

Still no maiden for an England's spinners, Duckett with an impressive sprawl along the cover boundary to deny Mominul an eighth boundary and restrict him to two.

Much to ponder for Alastair Cook, in his 54th Test as captain, which equals the England record set by Mike Atherton. In that first session Cook probably felt like Athers trying to contain the all-conquering Australian batsmen of the late nineties. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid is the man chosen to start the afternoon.

The arrogance of Alastair Cook and England to just assume the result was a given and use the series as a trial warm up for India, it's nice to Bangladesh giving some treatment back.

Thanks Amy, well that Imrul Kayes wicket seems a bit of a way off doesn't it? TMS have just been reminding Ben Stokes of his annihilation at the hands of Carlos Brathwaite in the World T20 final. Tamim Iqbal has been going along in similar fashion during that morning session. Let's see what the afternoon has in store.

That's all from me for the time being. I'm off to eat breakfast (or is it lunch?) and get the teas in. I'll leave you in the very capable hands of Jamie Lillywhite.
