  2. Ind 242-1published at 83 overs

    Woakes 0-33 from 18

A full-length ball from Woakes squeezes between Pujara's bat and pad but misses the off pole by the proverbial coat of varnish. The Warwickshire all-rounder hit Pujara three times in the morning session with bouncers and is up around 85mph but cannot get the elusive breakthrough.

It's a good move to bring the spinner on with the new ball and some extra bounce. I like that. Don't just use the seamers.

I think Geoffrey said that before the four and six.

  5. Ind 241-1published at 82 overs

    Vijay 93, Pujara 105

England opt for spin with the new ball but Moeen is stylishly cut to the boundary by Pujara and Vijay's lofted stroke thuds into the padded rope for his third six. That didn't go well, then.

100 for Pujarapublished at 81 overs

    Ind 229-1

A great moment for Pujara. His father is among the crowd who all stand to celebrate the single off the back foot off Woakes with the new ball. Sections of the crowd shake the hand of Pujara senior. The century has come from 169 balls. It is his ninth Test hundred and his third against England. He hit two in his first three innings.

  7. Not out - Vijay on 86published at 80 overs

    Ind 228-1

You cannot be out lbw when hitting the ball in the middle of the bat and third umpire Rod Tucker asks "what's that for?" before dismissing the optimistic appeal. England should be ordered by pay court costs for that one.

It is the last over before England get two reviews so they ask for an lbw.

  9. Postpublished at 09:05 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2016

Pujara left much of his protective equipment on the outfield during the interval but he calmly strolls out and slips on the armguard, helmet and gloves and whirls his bat around Ian Botham-style as he makes his way to the middle. One needed for his century but he will be off strike as Moeen resumes to Vijay.

We have a minimum of 34 remaining today and a note that we will be off air for five minutes either side of the marking of Armistice Day at 11:00 GMT.

Thanks Alan. Is now the right time to revisit that stat that only three teams have lost having made more than 537 in the first innings and England are one of them? Who can forget the Adelaide Test in the 2006-7 Ashes?

So what can England do to make something happen in the evening session? As Aggers mentions, the new ball is only an over away and surely it'll be taken straight away. The deficit is still over 300 for India but it has been hard toil for the tourists.

To see if they can make inroads, and whether Pujara can get to his ton, here's Jamie Lillywhite to take you through the rest of the day.

England have got to take the new ball when it becomes available. This one is not doing anything, not reversing at all.

Tom: 228-1 and we've still got Kohli to come in to bat yet, with no Anderson to scare him. Anybody else worried?!

Piers: Younger generation probably not too thrilled with this but what those Indians are doing...well that is proper Test cricket that is.

Absolutely speechless at this... Geoffrey must approve.

  17. Tea-time summarypublished at 08:48

Cheteshwar Pujara is unbeaten on 99 at tea after sharing an unbroken stand of 160 with Murali Vijay as England contained India but couldn't make a breakthrough in the afternoon session as the hosts reached 228-1.

Haseeb Hameed dropped Vijay at short cover off Stuart Broad, who conceded only one run in a five-over spell, while Pujara successfully overturned an lbw decision off Zafar Ansari with the ball going over the top.

Broad has taken the only wicket to fall so far on day three, trapping Gautam Gambhir lbw in the second over of the day.

    India still trail by 309.

I thought Rashid bowled the most dangerous deliveries but this pair don't mind if they have to take their time. It's good old-fashioned Test cricket, nothing given. There is some spin and you do sense the cracks are getting bigger.

  19. Tea - Ind 228-1published at 79 overs

    Vijay 85, Pujara 99

Stokes nearly makes something happen - Vijay doesn't know whether to play or leave a fuller one and does neither, almost deflecting the ball onto his stumps.

The crowd are on their feet as a single brings Pujara back on strike with two balls until tea. Surely he wants to get the hundred now and not fret in the 20-minute break?

Stokes pauses, makes him wait. In he comes... just outside off and a straight bat for no run. Right, the final ball before tea, the crowd on their feet... Stokes bangs it in and Pujara fends it off but he will have to take his tea on 99.
