  1. Ind 227-1published at 78 overs

    Vijay 85, Pujara 99

Oohs and aahs in anticipation from the crowd as Moeen skips in, a couple of dabs and Pujara thinks about setting off but quickly bellows "no". Another turn to leg and he shouts "wait" this time.

Good stuff from Moeen, giving him nothing to go at and that's a maiden. Dad maybe a little more anxious now.

  2. Ind 227-1published at 77 overs

    Vijay 85, Pujara 99

Stokes puts some back into his first ball and Pujara steers it to third man for a single. Vijay goes in the same direction to bring Pujura back on strike. Dad is watching on, looking extremely calm and like he's enjoying every minute of this.

What will Stokes try now? Cook beckons the field in. Short again and Pujara right behind it. A flick to leg and he's onto 99.

  3. Ind 223-1published at 76 overs

    Trail by 313

India are rotating the strike now and ticking the scoreboard over after a long spell of being becalmed. A fine cut from Pujara takes him to 96. Will he look to go to the hundred in style? A single keeps him on strike and moves him to 97. And he's going to have to face Ben Stokes. This could be interesting.

England have bowled well but only having one wicket will concern them as there is a lot of batting in this India line-up.

  5. Ind 220-1published at 75 overs

    Ansari 14-1-42-0, Moeen 14-4-37-0

Ansari drops short and Broad just about prevents a boundary as he makes a sliding save. Three more to Pujara takes him to 94 and the partnership past 150.

Ashley Parker: Got draw written all over it now this test as nothing in it at all for the bowlers.

Thomas: Do you think we could sack off the rest of this series and go back to Bangladesh? Boring pitch.

  7. Ind 214-1published at 74 overs

    Vijay 81, Pujara 90

Eventually after a long, long pause we start again and India pick off three singles off Moeen as Pujara moves within 10 of the fourth century of the game.

The England spinners have all gone at under three runs per over. In Bangladesh the spinners were at 3.6 an over.

Ansari has started really well in this spell, right on the mark and just one run from the over.

An unscheduled break here as Vijay changes his boots, drinks are brought on as England stand round and have a chat. The game feeling like it's almost ground to a halt.

Spoken like a true Newcastle United fan.

  12. Ind 210-1published at 72 overs

    Vijay 80, Pujara 87

A maiden from Moeen. Just 48 runs from 22 overs since lunch but still no wickets since the second over of the day.

The odd thing really is India are 210-1 but I think England have bowled better than at any time in Bangladesh, where the ball turned much more quickly and there was a peculiar pressure on them.

  14. Ind 210-1published at 71 overs

    Eng 537

Three off Ansari's over. It was a lovely delivery from the left-armer spinner though. It looked out on first viewing, not that is any consolation.

  15. Not out - Ind 208-1published at 70.2 overs

A repreive for Pujara and heart-sinking for England - dead straight but it was going over the top.

The crowd are on their feet and cheering wildly and the tourists have to regroup and get on with it.

We know these days you can't just play forward willy-nilly.

  17. India reviewpublished at 70.3 overs

    Ind 208-1

Ansari replaces Rashid and has he trapped Pujara? The finger went up but the batsman has reviewed.

There has been a lot of good effort from England, apart from the dropped catch I don't think there is anything else they could have done.

  19. Ind 207-1published at 70 overs

Vijay sweeps Moeen again and gets a top edge as it loops behind but there is no fielder near it as it drops safely. Head in the hands from Stokes with chances so few and far between.

England have done OK but it is all dependent on the 22-yard strip. I didn't think India bowled badly either, Shami bowled beautifully and had two catches dropped. You need some exceptional pace to tackle India and England don't have that.
